Brushed Ali Tempest

I have some Ali bar which I was given. it has sat in my blank draw for quite some time OK like many of my blanks

So Ali on a gold Tempest. I was going to go for the full shine but decided it would have been just too much with the gold so went with a brushed effect, I am glad I did go this route

Unusual Derek and no wood in sight. Very nice too.
Do you usual normal gouges and techniques for turning aluminium?
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Thank you both.

I used these two to turn it but had to use them on centre the top one I found to cut the best. It certainly was an interesting exercise. And took longer than a wooden pen.

Yep like that. Not so much the gold as I generally don’t like gold things, but the shiny gold and matte Ali work well together. I like the shape too.
Cheers

Nice pen, did you put any finish on to stop the figure prints?

The top tool would cut better as it is a shear cutter, the square cutter is scraping, aluminium would normally be turned with quite a steep cutter angle on a metal turning lathe.

My tool kit is almost complete, only a few more to get.

I have given it a coat of sander sealer and microcrystalline wax.

Certainly different from the normal wood.
