Ash Bowl

The place to find and post anything related to the world of spinning wood at ridiculously high speeds!

Ash Bowl

I thought I had posted this here but had not.

Thought I would have another go at a piece of turning found what appeared to be a plain piece of ash in the woodpile, pleased with what I found inside. Finished with sander sealer and then put on my buffing system, I did add a coat of woodwax22 on top of that

The feeling you get when what you expect to be a plain lump of wood actually turns out (pun intended) to have some nice grain and figuring is one of pure joy.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Thank you both.

It sure is that is what makes it a pleasure to turn some pieces. I think there may be more in my wood store just like this

It would have been great to see what the blank was like before spinning it up in the lathe. I reckon there ought to be a new rule on WH2 that says we need to see the lump before n'after :D
F'rinstance, this here is a lump of....

....Bulgarian Walnut (I think :eusa-think: ) that I bought from Yandles some years ago. I have no idea what's inside it though, but I think I might use my Woodcut Bowlsaver to take a core out and get two for the price of one - Rob

I’ve been thinking the same thing. I have some lumps of ash that are too big for my lathe and too thick to turn just one bowl from.

My big wish list is a larger lathe so I can get one of the coring systems as well as turn larger pieces
