On the subject of motors, my Proxxon belt sander produced copious amounts of smoke on switch on.
I bought it refurbished from Axminster a few years ago and have hardly used it.
Anybody know if Proxxon or Axminster carryout repairs?

When we had a show round at axi a few years back, - I think you were there Rod, they had a workshop repairing stuff but I don't recall if it was just doing warranty work on their imported machines or if they tackle all machine they sell.
After the smoke does it run OK? sometimes is is just filter capcitors that emit smoke after a brief bang.
Brush motors tend either run OK or run slow and produce lots of extra sparks round the comutator.
Usually ok to use if it is just capacitors as they fail open circuit but if it does not run properly, it is normally beyond economic repair as replacement armatures are similiar price to the original tool plus labour to fit.
