It is a piece of machinery. It just has to be 100 effective in what it does and that does not include looking pretty!
In fact if a machine does look decorative then it probably means the design has been compromised in some way or other to make it so.

Well to my mind they’ve gone out of their way to make it “decorative”, and failed spectacularly.

I saw this at a show recently and thought what a smart looking lathe it was, if I had the space.

Oooo-er Bob, I think you may be skating on very thin ice here. This is a machine...

A large proportion of its attractiveness comes from the need to be aerodynamic being part of its functionality.

My Dad was an RAF pilot, He always used to say "If it looks right it flies right." Not sure about that lathe. It has a bit of the 'designed by a committee' look about it.

Not knowing anything about the technical capability of either machine but why not add a few curves? I can’t see the problem with the Record.
Is the curves you object too to? Why should all the edges have to be angular?
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

At the end of the day does it do what is expected of it. That is all I ask I confess that the next lathe down from the stratos that is linked to would be just the ticket for me

I saw the Stratos range at the Exeter show last year and they had some nice features.

Just to go the other way, I quite like the look of it. I think it looks a lot like some of the old wartime cast iron to me, where it wasn't all square and industrial looking. I'd happily own it, but not at that price as I don't do, or am unlikely to ever turn enough to warrant that spend.
Cheers
