I've got one of those permanently connected to the Kapex. No good for the table saw as that is large diameter...4" plus

My TS seems Ok with HVLP extractor with a proper (induction) motor.
Can to you tell that I avoid brush motor devices whenever possible?

Is this test with no earth connected?

Bob

Yup...no earth. Motor runs much slower, speed varies and the commutator gets red hot ...as in a bit of water on the end of the finger and a quick dab and it goes ''''hiss"""

The springiness is the same in both brushes.

Time to flash the cash.

I'll try mine. Guess my thinking is 'legacy' in that I originally used the Camvac when I had the drum sander and other dust creators and was taking my 'clean' chippings away to a local stable. That was then. This is now and all goes down the tip.

Roger have you readthis thread?

viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1132

HJ was looking at a numatic motor to replace his camvac one as they were cheaper. No mention as to whether he did or not might be worth a PM.

Can you post up the details of the motor you ordered? It might prove useful to have a reference to it in the future.

Just goes to show that it is always worth looking around for sources of spares other than the retailer of the machine. Firms the size of camvac (or their new owners RP) will not have a custom made motor unless they cannot avoid it and so will look at existing parts from "motors-R-us" and design their product around what is on the market.
The same goes for bearings and belts - nearly always standard parts and readily available.

Not so straightforward :(

On the original motor there are four tapped holes (blind) in the casting that the motor is attached to. Into these holes go four threaded rods that then attach the motor to the top plate of the Camvac.

On my replacement motor, none of the holes are tapped. Two of them are slightly undersize and as the casting is softer than the threaded rods, I was able to self-thread the rods into them. But the remaining two are slightly oversize and the only thing I can think of is to Araldite the rods in.

To make matters worse, the thread is definitely not metric

EDIT: Damn..just watched a video on replacing the motor in a Numatic Henry and the assembly makes no use of any threaded rods and so those holes are as per (as it were). Looks like it has to be Araldite.

Full lead (slow cure) araldite or JB weld will be fine.

Or slower, I can loan you a tap?

Silly question...these motors don't worry about which wire goes to L or N ? I don't think that they do.

No single phase AC motor is polarity sensitive.
The voltage changes polarity every 10mS

All now sorted and so thanks to all. :text-bravo:

All for the princely sum of £28 which I call a result.

Well done that man.

On the subject of motors, my Proxxon belt sander produced copious amounts of smoke on switch on.
I bought it refurbished from Axminster a few years ago and have hardly used it.
Anybody know if Proxxon or Axminster carryout repairs?

When we had a show round at axi a few years back, - I think you were there Rod, they had a workshop repairing stuff but I don't recall if it was just doing warranty work on their imported machines or if they tackle all machine they sell.

After the smoke does it run OK? sometimes is is just filter capcitors that emit smoke after a brief bang.
Brush motors tend either run OK or run slow and produce lots of extra sparks round the comutator.
Usually ok to use if it is just capacitors as they fail open circuit but if it does not run properly, it is normally beyond economic repair as replacement armatures are similiar price to the original tool plus labour to fit.

I bought it on that trip Bob.

No smoke this time but a clicking noise, when I wound up the speed, it tripped the fuse.

I see that brimark are sole agents for proxxon and owners of Axminster so I'd contact them to find out service arrangements.
