Palm Router

I’m thinking of getting a demountable palm Router for use on a lathe. Is there really much difference between the £35 jobs I’ve seen or is the Makita worth three times the price? One thing I would need is a 6mm collet for it rather than the 1/4” more commonly supplied.

Some of the dearer router manufacturers can offer a 6mm collet as an extra. I use an old Bosch router in a homemade jig for fluting and the like on the lathe will dig out some photos if you are interested but that will be later on today as I have just popped in the forum.

Yes I wouldn’t mind seeing some pictures if it’s not too much bother.

I’ve actually seen some small box lids somewhere that had the lids fluted and they looked very good.

Well this is my setup it takes an old Bosch POF500A.

Where the router bit is there is a collar (Not fitted) which acts as a depth of cut system which allows for going around curves. The board I have in the photo is a little small for doing larger projects but it is attached to the bed bars to prevent tipping. I also have a homemade dividing plate for indexing.

This shows an old router plunge base which I cannibalised to hold my router as all it takes is a collar type fitting

Hope some of this helps
