Hello there folks

Postby PitchPine » 30 Nov 2019, 22:42

Hi everyone,

I’ve lurked on the site a bit recently and you all seem a very friendly and knowledgeable bunch, I hope you’ll have me!

I’ve worked with my hands using many materials since a young age, but love the smell and feel of raw timber. Most of what I do at home is done using hand or basic power tools, but I use CNC gear at work.

Here’s a few pieces, be kind!

I’ve come here for a bit of technical help with a project I’ve been putting off for a long time - will start a special thread on that one.

Hi Pitchpine and welcome to the forum.

Great photos. That last photo has blown my mind....just can't see how you did that. Looking forward to your special thread!

Ah-ha, the wonders of CNC...

Like a lathe that spins the work slowly while a router bit goes over the top.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

One more post and the moderator thing will be gone.

I used to work with CNC metalworking machines and have just started looking at home CNC router systems. Completely undecided at the moment even as to if I really want one and what I'd do with it if i did have a CNC. I know back at work what the CNC could do drove the design solution so maybe that would work at home too. Hmm

Hi Robert,

I agree, once you get yourself into a CNC ‘mindset’, just because you have the equipment, you often miss an easy solution...

I like to use hand tools at home as a break from it!

It can also be fun to add the odd hand tooled feature to one-off CNC parts, to boggle brains looking at it from the other perspective.
