Until Covid came along we used to fly 4 or 5 return flights a year, and it never ceased to amaze me how simple and clear instructions were ignored by so many passengers. Seat belts on? Seat backs upright? electronic devices off? Applies to everyone else but not me, so I'll ignore and carry on regardless!!
The buck stops with the captain, whose word is law - quite literally. Passengers were told to wear masks several times before boarding, and again as they boarded, and again as part of the pre-flight safety briefing. When they failed to do so, they should have one personal reminder and then the cabin manager should report the issue to the captain. The captain should have reminded passengers of their obligation to abide by the airline's rules. Anyone still failing to follow instructions should be put on a "no fly" list. Apparently not only were many passengers not wearing masks, but they were wandering around the cabin - also contrary to instructions - without wearing masks and chatting to other passengers.
Crass, arrogant and ignorant passengers, a weak cabin manager and a weak captain.
