• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Fixing slipped slate from the inside

The hire company (for a cherry picker) that my school used, waived the operator as our mantainence bloke was an ex-fireman with the requisite experience and documentation. You may not be so lucky. Also, if you need harnessing up (to go out of the man cage) you will need other paperwork to...

Affinity Water - meter now activated conundrum

The submerged meter? I had one too and the board worker who turned up to suss it cleared it in 5 seconds flat. Crow bar, quick rummage in the gravel around the meter, bingo, draining water. Apparently, the "medium consolidates over winter"🤔 600 litres per diem? Is Tiny Tim a lodger in your...

    Greetings from the Colonies...

Only because "over there" a certain Derbyshire Troll cannot accept that there is more than one way to achieve similar results... his idol is the French cartoon star, Dogmatix...you could say, he's got 'curved balls' ...as opposed to.throwing them.... Sam

Tools to solve a common problem

I can think of a high number of Irish, North and South, that would smile gently, and shake their heads at that....poteen - usige beatha - is nigh on a religion in some places here, never mind the likes of Black Bush. Slàinte! EDIT: Third run!!!

    Withdrawn

I'm all good, thank you muchly Bob. Long story, but essentially, I deeply suspect that the stand-in postie, following out-of-date delivery instructions, (superceded by my redirection request) left a parcel out in the open for an indeterminate amount of time, then returned, picked it up and...

    Edge-glueing Kingspan

Kingspan/Celotx glues very poorly in my experience, Roger. Others may chime in and repudiate that; it would be good to hear their experiences. What about a 'stick frame' in roofing laths or similar? Emulating the outline?

    Withdrawn

Accchhh. I just had a rant at the Royal.Mail messing me about. I'm 130 miles from.home (family mini crisis) with 4 parcels inbound to my domicile, one of which is b.p. meds. Trying to get through their website to divert the parcels to my later pickup at the local Post Office proved to be  so...

Kity 439 snipe fixed! Now with pictures. (probably similar planers, too)

Interesting! I have an Elektra Beckum (old version, no micro-switches) similar in architecture to yours; I will be conducting some forensic 'industrial archeology'. Thanks EtV. Sam

    Fuming test

Familiarly, to every lab tech, or supply house: "Eighty-eight ammonia". You can buy Winchesters of it fairly cheaply and without hassle.

    Removing screws

This can work, Ian, but of the screws/workpiece has been exposed to weather.....you can snap the shank ...😡... just below the head of the screw.....DAMHIKT.

    Cuckoo

Saw Redwings and Field Fares here in Northumberland a couple of weeks ago, probably in Norway by now.

    Removing screws

Absolutely! Great technique, particularly in ancient oak or mahogany.

    Fuming test

Phil, that beaker/glass is not providing very much surface area to allow fumes to rise. Great if you are trying to exert some control, but agonisingly slow if other 'surfers' are working persons, looking to bang out a piece sharpish. If the reader is the latter, I'd suggest baking trays, or...

    Removing screws

I agree EtV. We created our own using the next size up hole saw, cross-grain, and sanding to the late, great, 9finger's "honeymoon fit". We found glue swelling and then polymerising created an anchor-like base for new screws. Because we are trying to keep verisimiltude, we sometimes have to use...

    Removing screws

You can also make Mike's suggested screw extractor...but unless you have access to a hardening oven, like Dr. Al's, chewing through wood only is your restricted option.

Yes. And you're not having mine.😊
