• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    My next challenge 😡

caps for emphasis - DO NOT TRUST LETTING AGENTS, EVER - as previously mentioned I've been a private tenant all my adult life, coming on 38 years now and I've never encountered a letting agency that did barely more than the minimum to justify their 15% cut every month. If you're a landlord and...

    My next challenge 😡

As a lifetime private tenant and 21 years in a HMO (the same one) I can tell you probably 90% of tenants treat rented properties like a rock star from the 70's treats hotel rooms. Even in this house which is for professionals not students all over 30 I STILL have to tell them regularly to treat...

    Shinto rasp

One of my most used tools. Was a revelation to use compared to other rasps, the different coarse / fine teeth are excellent - I've had mien for years now and no signs of dulling particularly.

    Change of plan

After my father fully retired a few years back something similar happened but it was regarding the domestic controllers cooking (she is an excellent cook / chef) - she quite literally gave him cold turkey sandwiches for a week - he got the point - lol still makes me chuckle thinking about it.

A daft weather seal question maybe

Not such a draft question after all. I'll get my coat...

Any nice people with a Mill?

The tablesaw tops aren't that large from side edge to slot is less than 8 inches, 200mm without running out to check- and I've seen mills from various YT channels that look like they could accommodate quite easily if going parallel to the bed instead of front to back. I've thought about a...

Am I an idiot to try a small boring head for face milling on a pillar drill?

Doing what exactly? Would a bit of Ali chucked up in a standard wood lathe get it done?

Any nice people with a Mill?

I've come cap in hand - but I haz cash too, and not beer money, happy to pay a proper rate. I'm hoping someone might have a milling machine to do 4 straightforward cuts to enlarge 15mm slots into 19mm slots on two tablesaw tops - one is cast iron (Axminsters average TS200) and the other I think...

    How would you make this?

At the risk of stating the obvious - cutting a slice off via bandsaw, drilling holes then gluing back seems like you're asking for a glue line. Drill holes all the way through, if you use a holesaw, cut the plug to thickness desired for depth of recess, add a thin strip of contrasting wood or...

    Bloke builds replica phone box.

The guys stuff is amazing - I watched the phone box earlier today - when he started doing the roof I was like "he's not going to...... yup he did". I don't think he's got anywhere near enough drawers in his shop though.

Post a photo of the last thing you made...

It's not that obvious in the photo but there is one yes, and the reason is simple - I ran out of wood :) haha. The reclaimed stuff was not tall enough on it's own and the door had to be tall enough so that no scrote could climb over it - the top and bottom are.... the mid and top rail of a...

I also made this quite recently - an almost bomb proof ledge and brace side gate - with top end grain weather protection using an aluminininum strip. Made from 25mm thick reclaimed pitch pine boards which has quite a lot of aluminininum paint and about 5 coats of weathershield flexible paint on...

My literal first humble arthouse piece on an actual lathe, as opposed to my previous things knocked up using a drill and a bolt. Epoxy grooves go in opposite directions - a real test of my technical skill. It's a butt plug - for broom handle and head, just in case it wasn't obvious.

Ideas wanted ! No idea too crazy.

Best way to ask is just to show. I have one of these: a DW1150 specifically. and it takes up a lot of space on it's own as it has it's own stand. It currently lives in a (large) box and I almost never use it, because it's a PITA to get it out, use it and put it back in the box (the box has...

    Greetings from Brizzle.

Some of you may recognise my avatar name from UKworkshop, don't run away, I promise to be nice :) ** For those that don't I'm a Bristol (UK) resident, occasional sawdust maker, having learned a lot from contributors on UKworkshop and I'm sure I'll learn even more here. Glad to be among...
