• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

A daft weather seal question maybe

I'm just setting out and cutting timbers for the window I’m making, I am using AQ 21 seal but my question is do I really need to rebate the seal as well as the fitting groove? for me I guess it reduces my seal depth if i used one also the cost of something i may only use handful of times. Axminister do Axcaliber cutting disc for the moulder also cheaper is the Router tool, I think for me I’m happy with the groove but I do have a tendency to overlook the obvious

No, you can simply just set the seal onto the timber with a 3mm groove rather than doing the 3mm and 12mm combination groove. You need to allow 5mm between the rebate seat and the casement in that case, the same as a AQ124 seal, though it might be worth doing a test piece to ensure it compresses properly at 5mm as different batches of seal can be slightly different.

Where you may need to groove it deeper into the timber is where you might be using it as a wiping seal/double seal on the rebate face, so you can have a 3mm perimeter gap on your door or casement and not have the seal bind around the edge of the door or casement as it closes.
