• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

A week ago yesterday (Thur.) we took delivery of 15 Sq. Mtrs. of Galvanized steel roofing sheet weighing some 120kilos. and we started moving it part way up the plot towards the shed.

On Friday the better half and I started stripping the deteriorating Onduline sheeting off the workshop shed and got a couple of new sheets moved up the other half of the plot and fitted having installed new membrane and checked the laths. (That's when the little Makita drill died driving hex headed fixing screws)
Saturday saw the remaining three sheets installed just in case the forecast storm for Monday arrived early.

The remainder of the past week has seen the generally tidying up appearance and blanking of eaves against birds nests, sorting out spacing and fixing for refitting guttering as and when time available including a trip to the council recycling centre to dispose of all the old roofing.

Guttering could do with being spaced out a little more for really heavy rain but had to come to compromise with practicality of manufactured spacers to suit the overhang of roof I wanted.

And I don't want to see another ladder or set of steps for a few days but all In all don't think it's a bad few days effort.

There is one big difference between the Onduline and the steel roofing sheet you might encounter, that is if you heat the shed you will find you get a lot of condensation on the steel which I found on the last build, internal rain !!

Solution was to insulate so as warm air does not reach cold steel.

I have a precast sectional store, was a garage but I altered it. I roofed it with Onduline but it was rubbish so last year I replaced it with steel sheet and clear stuff with the same profile. Very pleased with the results. My store is unheated and rather well ventilated as I was worried about internal condensation, it’s been fine. I think Spectric would be correct if it was used for a workshop. I ummed and arred about the clear sheets but they made the store far more usable.

Hopefully catered for, shed roof is boarded, breather membrane and battened under steel. (onduline was sitting on boarded and battened roof)
Inside is glass fibre insulated between joists and plaster boarded over majority of the area. although the latter is now looking a bit of a hodge podge as it consists of a patchwork big sheets, smaller sheets and off-cut pieces.

Was aware of the condensation problem from a utilities lean-to shed that I did some years ago that drips at times even though it is open ended to the elements.

..
There’s a lot of windows in that shed.

Yes, salvaged the old steel units when house windows replaced so half the wall height on most of three sides is window.
(One end is currently covered by later wood store extension.)
