• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

This came with a Kity spindle moulder 1629, to be fair i have forgotten the mounting shaft size i think the blocks i have are 30mm and use inserted step spacers where as this different so really need to ID it. Approx 160mm across the flats and micro is the bore size, could this be Kity supplied with the moulder?
Anyone please and idea?spindle cutter1.jpg

Hi Tony

I can't say 100% but I think that could be a Kity grooving disc though the bore size suggests not as the kity shaft would have been 30mm (or 20mm if an old model). I don't recognise the shape so suspect it was a later purchase but we sold a number of kity tooling items that were painted green colour. Hard to tell from the photo if it's the same green so I'm not sure it is.

It could also be from an old Startrite machine which could tie in with the bore size perhaps.

I was in a rush to put it on here so sorry for lack of information, i think its slightly different green so i would maybe say from older Startrite. Will update tomorrow

Typically spindle moulder tooling is either 30mm or 1.25" (31.75mm), with some exceptions of course when it comes to smaller moulders that may use 1" or smaller bores. I would definitely double-check your measurements as it's most likely 1.25".

It does look like Startrite or later Multico paint rather than Kity paint, but neither company was known for producing tooling aside from Multico, I don't believe they produced brazed-carbide panel raisers, only saw blades and cutter blocks to fit their saw benches.

It does not look like it has been used much and interesting it apears to have both side teeth and bottom planing cutters. Not seen a cutter like it before but then I have spent most of my working life on site rather than in a shop.

Is it not some kind of trenching head with nickers being adjustable to account for ware when the solid cutters are sharpened.

I re-took the measurment today with a little more precision and 1.25" or 31.6mm so no good my Kity machine, its got a centre boss 20mm depth and initial cutter width 18mm i say initial because i'm not sure whether the cutters on the opposite side will increase this, heavy bit of kit almost square in shape and different shade of green to my Kity as you pointed out Bob.

Could this have been one of a pair for spindle machining tenons ?
If a singular cutter it would be a top cut.
Cheers, Andy
