• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have not had much time for woodworking lately or leatherwork for that matter, needing to cut something on my bandsaw when the blade snapped. Needing to complete the job I nipped to Axminster in North Shields (Newcastle) only to find it closed.
Just in case anyone travels Google says it is open.

The Warrington one closed down a few weeks ago, I wonder if the Newcastle one has gone the same way...

Yep, just checked and that too has closed down due to rising costs.

Yes, they are gradually withdrawing. Closed Nuneaton, Newcastle, Warrington and Cardiff. Fairly widely reported in trade press as well.

Our nearest is Sittingbourne, Kent. I would be surprised if it survives as it is in fact in the middle of nowhere in farmland. It's large and has a huge car park, but on the rare occasions my wife lets me go in, there are few customers. The pro tool shop in Maidstone is actually cheaper for Festoolery etc.

They were a much reduced presence at Harrogate show this year as well with most of their exhibition being for turning.

Next time you'll have a spare blade, won't you.:)

Well to tell the truth I did have a spare blade but the workshop is a little untidy, with Axminster just up the road it was much easier to go buy a new blade rather than find the spare. It took me over an hour to find the blade. It is a shame it has closed but at least they deliver.

I use Tuffsaws for my bandsaw blades, have done for years and find them good quality at a reasonable price and delivered quickly. Just my personal experience of course.

Me too. When I first needed a new blade for my Inca, Ian at Tuffsaws had the foresight to ask me which way round my BS was configured. The Inca, unlike most others, has the table to the left. Saved me a lot of grief.

My brain cant quite compute why that is an issue. Blades can be flipped get the teeth facing down cant they?

I’ve never tried Bob but the mess I get into when I try and curl them up (I hang them up uncurled now) makes me think it is not easy.

I've got a mental block on this too. Sometimes I can do it, but often resort to watching a video to remind me how to do it!

When our children were small they had a pop up tent which folded down in the same way, and I struggled with that too.

I think part of the problem is that it kind of blows my mind that it's even possible to put them into a tighter curl!

I used to have a large Basato 5-4 bandsaw. To uncurl the blades, I'd PPE up, go outside, undo any fastenings and hurl it as far as I could onto the grass.

Hold the blade vertically at 10oclock and 2 oclock
Twist one wrist clockwise and the other anti clockwise and the magic should happen.
Don't forget to also don a pair of leather gardening gloves before attempting to fold the little blighters - Rob
