• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I've had this woody hanging around for quite some time and as I have a job it will be ideal for, I thought I'd clean it up and get it working.

Unfortunately, on examination, it has a crack in the body that extends through to the mortice that holds there wedge.

Anyone have any thoughts on if it is usable or not? Is it possible to repair?

It’s not an unusual plane so I would say don’t repair it just look for another one.
If it was handed down through the family for generations then try glueing it but it looks fatal to me.

Pete's right. But as it's not rare or valuable, there's no reason to be especially precious about how you approach it. You could, for instance, screw a couple of slim brass plates across the crack, or glue some strips of wood, to see if you could make it strong enough to grip the wedge. What have you got to lose?!

Thanks both, as I suspected really, but I thought I'd ask.
Luckily, I have another.

Cleaned up now, blade fettled and sharpened. Cutting like a dream.
Actually, I have a third but that turned out to be worse than the first. Shame really.
I may try the brass plate idea as the first is a slightly wider size of 1 3/8" whereas the working one is 1 3/16"
