Getting help with motor problems- please read this first

Those of you who know me will be aware of my interest in electric motors. Mainly induction motors but I'll try and help with brush motors too but to be honest they are the spawn of the devil and apart from an internal clean up, making sure the brushes are long enough and sliding freely there is not a lot else that can be done.

Please feel free to post here to get help with your motor problems. Try and describe the problem as accurately and clearly as possible. If you can, please include a good sharp picture of the rating plate on the motor so I can read the numbers.
It is always helpful if you can describe any earlier problems and just what happened immediate before the problem arose. Clearly this is not always possible if you have bought a non functioning machine second hand.

You don't need to be put off buy a used machine just because it is three phase. These often sell for much less than a single phase machine and there are a number of ways to run them in the home workshop.

I also do a lot of work with three phase motors and getting them running on a single phase (normal domestic) supply. As a sideline, I buy and sell electronic inverters including modifying them for specialist applications for the hobby market. If you have need to run 3 phase machines at home, I possibly can provide a solution.

Com needs to be clean as well, they can be trued up on an engineering lathe. As you say old school now.
