• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I'm only posting this for the sheer novelty of posting in the scrolling forum. Unfortunately, though, I haven't finished fixing the scroll saw I bought a couple of years ago, and so did this on the bandsaw, and with a fret saw/ coping saw.

I was handed the design by my daughter, who had seen something on the internet. "Dad, can you make this?"
I had seen yours previously, Bob, but couldn't remember who had done them. It's a present from my daughter to a friend of hers.

Easily made and very well received Mike, the problem you have now is they tend to want to breed. :lol:

As I said I nicked them off facebook. I sized the pics, printed off in B&W and just drew around them using carbon paper on to the wood. Needed a little modification but simple enough, I don't have patterns but will pm you the pics in case of any use. It's easy to chane the dog for a cat if that's more appropriate as well.

I also received Bob's fotos plus other SC patterns. (You are a star Bob! :D )
It is parked for a couple of months while I finish off the Bee hive project.

That's what some people are doing Malc and selling them on facebook for around £20 - £25 or so though they are using beech and walnut and selling without a finish applied.

Could be a good use of leftover Padauk, Purpleheart, Maple, African Mahogany etc from my builds.

If I do get time I was going to cut both girl and dog from the same piece of wood and use wood dye, black, on the dog before MMM finish.
 
I'd say the challenge of making them en masse would be in smoothing the cuts. How are you going to finish those? By hand every time......if so, that's hours of sanding. Cutting them out with a CNC (or even a laser, maybe), would be a doddle, but that rough surface is going to be the issue.

Regarding finishing, If cut with a fine fretsaw there's only very minimal hand sanding needed.
My dog cannot hear much yet... still to be added.

O, yes, definitely.
I generally only need to sand the fluff on the bottom side. Might make a zero clearance loose top.
 
My rather rushed effort. Far too small, I’ll scale it up I think to make it easier to cut and finish. Cut from one piece of oak, dog stained with Jacobean oak dye.
