• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Hello!

Hello all! John here. Based in Rochester, Kent. Among other interests, I’m a fan of tinkering with things and repairing things - I hate to see interesting/good stuff in skips or left to rot somewhere and often rescue these waifs and strays to give them a new lease of life (cellar, shed, lock-up and mother-in-law’s loft full of said stuff awaiting said new lease of life…).

Consequently, a bit of woodworking often comes into play. I’ve no great woodworking skills, just a keen DIYer with a collection of basic hand tools and a few basic power tools. But I usually get there, albeit sometimes ‘bodgily’.

I love the vibe on this forum - exceptionally knowledgeable yet playful and respectful. More power to all your chisels!

I’ve got a workshop build in mind, so hopefully see some of you over in that section shortly…

Welcome John.

I did a "how to" for building workshops and sheds. I'm not sure if the illustrations are still working, but I'll help where I can.

Wotcher from Mid-Devon. I built my 'shop based on Mike G's how to, and a lot of other advice from members here.

Hello from NW France, started my working life in Rochester, selling typewriters.

Looking forward to seeing your workshop build, we’ve not had one for a while

Hi John, I like your attitude - do post threads about some of your rescue projects, with pictures of course.

Many thanks all for the warm welcome. 🍻

Andy P: Nice that somebody else has a Rochester connection. Did you use to live here too?

Mike: yes, I’ve read your how-to guides many times! My ‘shop will be merely the latest in the long line of builds guided by your wise words. Sadly, a lot of the photos from your builds - and from others’ builds - seem to have been lost in the ether over time, or have become inaccessible for some reason… But some, enough perhaps, remain, scattered throughout various threads.

Andy T: sure, will post some pics of previous rescue projects once they’re out of storage (don’t hold your breath, though!).

Hi and welcome from Somerset. Re Mike G’s excellent photos…I believe that if you access the site via a VPN then they become visible.

Welcome from South Yorkshire.
I'm new too, great bunch on here.
Happy chiseling
Kev

Hello John. I'm also in Kent. River Medway is near us at Yalding. Would be happy to meet up if you want a second pair of eyes on your project. I've built bunch of outbuildings, big kitchen, oak framed studio and another outbuilding will go up next year when I get round to it.

Welcome.. from another recently joined member living in a part of Somerset. Interesting thread you've posted about the workshop you're aiming to build 👍

That’s a very kind offer, thanks so much - might take you up on it once I get started on the build proper (probably in the new year or even spring, if I’m being realistic about it…). Did you document your build(s) here?

Hi John,
Welcome to the forum, has anyone mentioned that we like pictures?
Yes, I’ve heard that! Paints a thousand words and all that. I’ve included a couple in my build thread already; there’ll be more to come (probably with increasing comedy value as I blunder through the build). Cheers.

Some aspects. My wife does not like me to post photos of our stuff so that is limiting, coupled with the fact that I am hopeless at remembering to take photos. Anyway, several of the members here have seen by bodge up efforts in person :D

Welcome from far down South.
Cheers, Phil. Now that is far down south. I thought you were maybe Isle of Wight before I checked your location…

Where would I find this please?
