• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Blimey! Actually finished.
....might even work on a PC, dunno.

Being a bit of a pedantic chap at times, I do like to use the odd accented character. Until now, it was 'change keyboard to French', open Keyboard viewer to see where the wanted key was then reverse. Time consuming.

Then I discovered that holding the letter key down for two seconds displayed a small screen showing the available accented characters with a number under each. Enter the right number. Job done. Very quick.

Caveat ...always used to find that holding the key down resulted in an auto-repeat of that key. Not any more for me...hence the accent tweak. Maybe a box needs ticking somewhere or other to toggle between those two modes ?

I think they brought over the hold-down-the-key thing from iOS (where you just tap on the accented character once the list pops up). It’s a nice way of getting to extra characters.

thanks I am new to mac, just recently got an old trash can 6,1 and really like it, you can also get some of the weirder characters by holding CTRL CMD + SPACE, I needed to find a way to put a copyright symbol on something and found that useful. chëęrs!

Sorry Rog I’ve been doing that for years, never thought to tell you.
works on the iPad too

For those using Mac OS X machines, you can also add the keyboard and expanded character menu to the top tool bar for easy access. Click on System Preferences > Keyboard and enable the "Show keyboard nd emoji viewers in menu bar" option.

This will add the keyboard icon to the menu bar. Clicking on the icon opens a window full of choices to add to text. Put the cursor in the text were you want the symbol and then double click the symbol.

Rog, I know you're 'up to speed' on these new fangled pooter thingies, but even I, as a bit of a klutz, discovered that little wheeze about a decade ago :ROFLMAO: - Rob
