• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

On Wednesday I dropped into the regular meeting of "Tool Fondlers Anonymous" 😉 and came home with this little object.
Unless I am very much mistaken I do know what this is.
It has some wonderful punch decorations and ornamentation
Cheers, Andy

I'm guessing... It was once useful enough to be kept in a leather pouch, presumably in a pocket. There's a little bit of decoration, so possibly further up the social scale than a tradesman's tool. So following Duke's guess and your hint, I'll say it really is for getting stones out of a horse's hoof. Am I close?

It's very small. Hoof pickers are usually quite a bit bigger, so I'd be surprised. I assume it is sprung, somehow, so I am guessing it is a pair of tweezers for picking a tick off a dog.

Unfortunately not, but top marks for observation 🔍🔍

As long as I'm right you're 50% correct with the tweezers but could easily be 100% if tick picking was a thing in animals back aways...

Think the 'blade' would originally had a sharper point if it was for splinter removal or similar probing.

Ah! well, I will have to say that the photo doesn't do justice to how pointy it is so I'll take that as a correct assumption and it is indeed a splinter probe .

So, between Mike and CHJ I think we can say we have a result.
Combined probe (lancet) and tweezers for thorn/splinter removal in bespoke leather scabbard.
Not sure of the age but gotta say its going back a fair bit.
With the added bonus.....
It's smalI enough that I don't need to break out another storage fruit box
Cheers Andy
