Good morning all

New member here, glad to have finally caught up with some of the excellent woodworkers who seemed to have disappeared.
I'll be spending most of my time in the turning section but really enjoy seeing what others make out of straighter wood, and occasionally have a go myself.

Welcome Chris,
Yes there are a few excellent woodworkers round here all willing to share their knowledge.
I hope to get back to the lathe soon so please don't be shy in sharing projects past and present.

Hi Chris. Good to see you here. You won't find me in the turning section. Oh no. No sirree. No no. I've not got a lathe at all, even slightly. ;)

Chris, wasn't it you who was planning on building a boat? Am I remembering correctly? If so, what's the news on that?

Hi Chris, looks like another familiar name, welcome to the friendly forum from deepest rain soaked and wind blown Northumberland. Specific weather to keep the hoards of tourists away. ;)

Well, thank you all for the warm welcome!

Mike - well remembered! I got as far as buying the plans, stored safely in the drawer next to me. Ha. My lad decided what we needed far more was an old car for him to learn to work on, so that's been our project since last summer. I know so little about cars, it's been a steep learning curve, but kind of enjoying it. Kind of. I pull the dinghy plans out occasionally and pore over them longingly.

Roger and Lons - freezing here (well, not literally, but definitely more like winter), blowing a gale and driving rain at the moment. Wales.

Novocaine and Sunnybob - I'lll set the bar lower than both of you put together.

I've had a look around and this seems a good place, really pleased to be aboard.

Hello Chris! Building a boat is on my "that'll never really happen" list - you've got further than me.

Chris - you're clearly thinking of yet another Chris ;)
Trevanion - it's going well - running properly (well, right now it's not, but that's a temporary hiccup, and learning how to fix things is part of the plan) and he can get out in it regularly at last (we weren't allowed in lock down). Driving with one of your children learning at the wheel isn't exactly relaxing tho, is it?
Sam - calm is definitely good :-) Tho I did get all hot and bothered reading Adrian's thread about the chair, strewth!
Nick - it'll happen, it's just a question of when... :-)
Alf - We're clearly at opposite ends of the learning spectrum - my participation involves endless questions and calls for help. A pleasure to meet you.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

ps Sunnybob - I went searching for you elsewhere to show this, I made it for my lad who's into all things Japanese and was inspired by your pieces. It's just a prototype from beech, not suitable for use, I'm thinking american white oak or (easier to get) ash for the next one.

You've got no chance Bob, I'll lend my little 22 air rifle to Sam and If I act as his second I'll set the dog on you. ;) Being licked to death by a rough canine tongue isn't a nice demise.
