Hi all

Hi

I’m a long term lurker on this forum.
Retired now, putting my time in with small projects.

I have a small bandsaw to help with resaw but work mainly with hand tools.

I started using hand tools when I was working and couldn’t use noisy power tools in the evening.
Cutting grooves and rebates with a plane and then sweeping up the shavings is so much more satisfying than getting on full on PPE to use a router and ending up with a layer of fine dust everywhere.

I pretend I’m not a collector but I have more plough planes than strictly necessary.
I used to own a Record 044 and a Stanley 50, sold off when I found a Record 405.

I’ve since acquired a Stanley 13-050, Stanley 55, Record 043, and Stanley 46. Latest purchase was a Mitor 88.

I know, how many ways do you need to cut a rebate :D (and I have a Stanley 78 as well but I use that as a scrub)

Regards

Jim

Welcome Jim.

You'll find yourself in good company here with your bias towards hand-tools. Make one more quick post and then then you'll be free to post at will. The moderation here keeps the spam away nicely, as well as the trolls.

Welcome Jim,

I inherited a 405 from my grandfather. Usually takes me longer to set up than to do the job but when working sweetly it is a delight to use, and quiet, and it takes a lot longer to screw up a project than a tailed router.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers
Andy

Welcome along. I share your preference for the quieter methods - and as for the "how many" question I think it's just a matter of personal preference and storage space. Nobody would ask an art collector why they need more than one painting!

Hello again Jim; nice to see you migrated 'over here'. Lot quieter...
