Kitchen Worktops?

Postby Woodster » 20 Jul 2021, 20:26

Would the glue joint survive outdoors if it was protected from the weather? Just wondering if I could use it for a garden table top. Not hopeful but thought I’d ask in case anyone’s done something similar. :D

The staves would open up no matter what you treated it with.

Thanks, that’s what I figured but it doesn’t hurt to check. ;)

A neighbour used an offcut on trestles as a temporary bench in the garden. It curled up like an old British Rail sandwich after only a few days outside and is now waiting to go to the tip.

I'd noticed in the past that you can get offcuts and used lumps of non wood worktops on ebay - granite, quartz etc. I guess they would last outdoors but of course are very heavy.

Corian is available as offcuts too. never used it or even picked any up but I'd guess that would be lighter. No idea if it is UV resistant though.

A wooden kitchen worktop would last longer than that cardboard :)

Nothing wrong with IKEA. It is where I get my workshop pencils from, free.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

having had the joy of working there for 8 years part time (granted a fair few years ago now), yes, there is something very wrong with IKEA, but it's not what most people have a issue with. :D

The cardboard is a cunning plan to protect the wood until the cover arrives. ;) I don’t want it warping before we’ve even used it.
