Self levelling laser

Postby TrimTheKing » 24 Nov 2021, 13:12

Hi all

Anyone got one of these? I'm looking for recommendations for a laser that is self-levelling and will cast horiz/vert lines with clip & tripod mount options, for not stupid money.

Anyone have any experience and/or recommendations please?
Cheers

Internal or external? External needs to be brighter. Distance to measure is another parameter to think about as well ? I bought a secondhand one off eBay but I doubt it's still available.

Internal predominantly but one bright enough to do outdoors might be a benefit for after Christmas when I'll be looking to do a pergola type structure. Which one did you get, can you remember?

I have one for very occasional indoor use, so my main factor when choosing was also not stupid money. I ended up with the Screwfix special, which honestly works just fine for what I need (getting shelves level, brackets plumb, etc.). It's got the regular 1/4" tripod screw, but any other mounting options will probably have to be made up from that.

sparky used the bosch cube one. raved about it.

I have an old, non self leveling unit (takes an age to level), does what I need for when I need it.

I've got one - I use it quite a bit with the ongoing house renovations. Mine has a red laser, if I was getting another one I would try to get one with a green laser as the red is hard to see outside. Mine is made by Imex - I bought it at the local builders merchants a couple of years ago, wasn't too expensive.

its ok but hard to see laser outside next one will be a bosch one I think, with green laser.

I have 2 laser levels both self levelling, I can’t guide you to much as the outdoor one is a Leica and cost over a grand, my indoor one I’ve just replaced with a dewalt DCE089D1G which is excellent, its ok ish out side as long as it’s not bright sun shine, again not cheap but they are both for work. The dewalt has magnets which are brilliant as it will stick to metal skim beads. I’ve had real fun with clients who are amazed that it just sticks to the wall on its own

Have a look at Imex Mark, I don’t own one but a couple of mates do & say for the money they are good also go for a green beam again their recommended, I’ve been looking at them for a while now but after managing for over 40 years without one I’m left wondering if I really want to spend that kind of money.

That said I’ve just help install two big Oak twisting flights of stairs with Jonny D who used one to set out & work out his angle cuts, everything fitted bang on first time so perhaps I shouldn’t be so hesitant, his was a big DeWalt one though rather pricey.

Mine is DeWalt. 6 years old self levelling red laser. Comes with a multi angle magnetic mount and tripod mount hole, in a DeWalt case. It produces a flashing light if it cannot achieve level (eg badly mounted on tripod) and steady light if level is good. I think the self levelling range must be about 10 or 15 degrees each way.

When I replace it, it will definitely be Green as red light is invisible outside or in very bright conditions inside.

Considerations for me:
I use a laser for laying out flooring, so one that projects readily along the ground (as opposed to just horizontal and forward facing and overhead vertical) from a tripod is helpful.
One that can be sat directly on the ground is helpful - some (mine for instance) have a very thick base which elevates the horizontal level more than I would like when trying to check floor flatness
Watch for the projection distance - if you use it for setting out building work, in order to get a good line outside a long projection is better (the cheap chinese ones - friend has one - are not great on this aspect).

I've seen Bosch cube in action and it is very good as you can get a projection all around for setting out panelling etc.

Helps to have a tripod (ideally with levelling bubble).

Just had a look at what’s available, and can’t see anything like his so maybe it’s been superseded. Sorry Ian

I bought a Huepar 902CG Self-Leveling 360-Degree Cross Line Green Laser Level with Pulse Mode today. Amazon flash deal at £67. This after watching a few YT reviews and reading customer reviews. 360 in two directions, with receptor and magnetic clamp, should be ideal for flooring, framing and panelling. Should arrive tonight or tomorrow and if it is any good I will post. If it's no good it will be returned.

I thought about the next one up, which projects 12 lines (instead of 8), but it was £137 and I didn't think it was worth double. 360 degree dual axis is a no brainer now. Lockable for angles.

I stuck it in a new thread Mark in case others search in the future. Pictures all twisted round unfortunately.
