Stand for Ooni oven..

Postby Robert » 19 Jun 2022, 11:43

I'm currently using the ooni on a camping table. After use it gets packed away and the Ooni goes on a shelf in the shed. That works OK for me.

What's no so OK is the height from the ground when I'm using the oven. It needs to be higher. I also need it to pack away flat after use.

I had a play in sketchup. Based on 750mm top surface 1200mm from the ground.

First thought was square frames that would hinge flat somehow. Looked like it would be too heavy to keep putting behind the shed and pulling out again.

Searching folding tables showed small scissor action tables that could be made bigger with bracing. looked a bit unstable though even if cross braced.

I have a tripod table I made for our smokey joe table top barbecue. The 3 legs are hinged to each other and the table top has 3 cut outs that drop onto pegs on the legs. Works brilliantly and is very stable as the legs splay a little wider than the top. So why not make a bigger one..

Unless there are any better ideas?

A different approach with ours. Many years ago I was sent by Yandles (in error) a very heavy cast iron and steel stand for a Record 'Nova' lathe and it's proved to be ideal for an Ooni, using a gash bit of 18mm marine ply for a level surface:

I haven't got the space to store it in a shed, so it stays out all the time with it's rain proof cover. SWIMBO wanted it to be made thief resistant so in the autumn I'll lash it to the stand with some rope and then run a heavy duty steel chain & padlock thru' the stand and oven; any tea leaf who decides to then nick it is welcome as the stand + oven is bloody heavy as well as being unwieldy to manhandle :D - Rob

I use a table for our Ooni that has a lower shelf for the gas bottle. It sits under a cover in the garden when it’s not in use. Someone else I know bought a Keter Unity and says it works well. It has two wheels so easily moved and 900mm high like the Ooni table.

Just thought I would throw this in for your consideration, obviously it would need a different top!
Sturdy enough and stable enough to put a saddle on and sit to practice polo swings, ordinary black webbing across the bottom and from memory folds to 2 inches thick. Ian

Thought I'd better try the new height before making anything.

That is 1150mm and it is too high. Good for pizzas bad for fire maintenance.

When I do get round to it height will be 1050mm.

Used the oven while it was there and it was much more comfortable keeping an eye on cooking progress - which meant they came out even better... and no crust fires.

I made mine the same as the Ooni table - 900mm and it’s perfect for me.

Just measured mine and to the stone baking surface (the important bit) it's 102cm - Rob
