iMac slow....

iMac slow....

Postby clogs » 04 Jul 2022, 06:52

anyone out there with the same or one fixed up....?
overtime mine has got real slow...esp just lately......
it has the latest software update and the wifi speed is high....
it just seems it's the mac....all other Apple products using the same wifi are perfect.....

Have seen ads for clean my mac for free etc but scared to use em....
from previous experience when I had windows and used similar........

PS it's a late 2015, 27", prossesor 3,2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, we never play games...
just email, facebook, ebay, and similar stuff.......
if that means anything.....
thanks

just to add...
the blue line at the top of the page, for some forums it will go 1/2 way and stop, others it goes about an inch
instead of all the way across.....

Do NOT use any of those products, clogs.

You don't say what you are doing at the time. Browsing? Writing? Emailing ?

Which version of OSX.

When you say blue line ...I assume you mean the progress line in the address bar of your browser.

What browser are you using ? Try a different one.

What other Apple stuff do you have ? Can you set your Mac and say an iPhone to point to the same URL...hit go on both at the same time and see how they progress relative to each other ?

A lot of the time, it's the internet. I often get the same problems over here.

Have you done the obvious? ie clear cache, delete all history, close all open browser tabs, close browser, reboot machine.
cheers

Also open up Activity Monitor and see if any processes are consuming lots of CPU time.

Re deleting history etc...sometimes one wants to keep them and so before fiddling about with the existing browser I'd try a different browser.

Yet another lost post. Briefly again:

What the others said and:
Turn off bluetooth and re-test connection
Check disk not too full via apple icon and about this mac
Delete any bloatware that you have downloaded via internet
Empty trash
Go to disk utility via Launchpad or Finder and run First Aid (this is safe)
Reboot and try speed again now

Report back

The number one problem I’ve come across for speed issues on both Mac and windows is lack of HD space. How big is your HD and how much of it is used?

I wiped the HD and did a system reinstall on a 2009 iMac a while back and it was very easy. The machine runs a lot better now.

Just a thought, I've just upgraded my Late 2014 Mac Mini to SSD, the only upgrade that can be done with it.

It's really sped things up.

Might be worth googling to see if you can upgrade yours.
