Simple little things

Thought that I would try to start a thread about small simple tricks that make life easier.

About 20 years ago, I came across a bag full of m10 stainless steel nuts and obviously put them in the “come in useful one day” drawer. When I open a can of say, danish oil, I drop a nut in the tin, this helps the subsequent “shake well before using” process.

If using perspex etc and it has a few light scratches, I use a trick from my younger days making models and use toothpaste to polish the scratches out. Lot easier to grab the toothpaste than try to find something proper

When I find as small gap in a woodworking joint (very rare naturally :eusa-whistle: ) I put a little pva glue in the gap and sand the area with fine grit say 180 with the ROS. The dust colours the glue with just the right shade of wood fit a near invisible fix.
I find this far better than making up a wood dust and glue filler.

Not woodworking but a useful tip nonetheless.
Ever struggled to find your car in a busy car park?
Simply let your tyres down and hey presto when you get back from shopping at IKEA or off the plane in the longterm car park just look for the lowest car. Simple and useful.

You should send that to Viz magazine( if it didn't come from there in the first place). :D

Here's a good little tip...really, but really think about what you're doing. I had to exercise the 'little grey cells' for an hour or two this morning to find a 'fix'; had I not, two new bits of oak would have been needed  - Rob

When using bearing guided router cutters.....
Put a couple of layers of masking tape round the bearing when doing the first cut. Once all your pieces have had the first cut, take off the tape and you can then do a final fine cut to size.
Helps get a finer finish as well as remove any scorch marks on difficult timbers like beech.

If your moulding is simple with no undercuts such as an ovolo, quite often you can run the moulding before the final clean up of the surface then leave the router on the same setting and the slight difference on the depth will clean it up with another pass.

If theres slag its best to drag.
Superglue and masking tape.

Carbon fibre is just corduroy for cars.
