Any idea?

The place to talk about tools 'without tails', so come here with all your plane and chisel, burnisher and bradawl chatter.

Any idea?

I meant to ask Andy (toolntat ) what this was at the weekend but forgot.

Just guessing, but I wonder if it's a saw blade broken off from a multi-blade penknife, frugally saved and inserted into a new handle? Maybe still waiting for the special job to arrive for which it is finally needed...

The saw part wouldn't cut butter on a warm day.

Now you mention it, it does look like a blade from a cheapo " fishermans knife".

I don't see how it could be that, Bob, the teeth don't go right to the end, it would muck it up.

That hollow at the end makes me think it could, indeed, be a blade of an old Swiss Army knife. That hollow could be the remnant of a pivot hole.

Fish descalers tend to have a v in the end of the blade

I think it is an upholster ? letherworkers tool for removing tacks and staples. It has the catchy title of Sawtooth tack and staple lifter.

I had a feeling that it might be a real tool

Intrigued that there are left and right handed versions.

Well, I have been tidying up a book case for a charity shop where I volunteer, I get donated items, bring them home and try to add a bit of value before returning.

Today it was a nice pine bookcase that someone had covered the backing board with fabric, this was dirty and smelly. Removed lots of staples with my tack removal tool , I was sceptical that it would be any good but it was perfect for the job.
