Tools from a large Island

The place to talk about tools 'without tails', so come here with all your plane and chisel, burnisher and bradawl chatter.

Tools from a large Island

Postby Cabinetman » 16 Apr 2022, 16:29

Following an earlier decision to check out secondhand shops and antique shops for old tools which might be interesting/useful, I came across this strange item, no doubt designed for the man who hasn’t got time to put one down and pick another up – a laudable aim no doubt but it’s fairly flimsy and doesn’t have particularly good adjustment, also lathered in a nasty varnish, as were all the other tools in the shop I visited, there was a rather nice hand plane, a small version of a number four but it had been turned into a table lamp and to add insult on injury he had etched his name into the sole! Also a pile of moulding planes of which quite a few had the wrong blades fitted.
If interested and it’s still available I could buy it for one of you collectors, $20 if I remember correctly. Ian

I'll pass. I'm not sure which excuse to use though. Can I still say I'm not really a collector if I also say I've already got one? ;)

I've even used it - just the job for tickling up the pole on a neighbour's sunshade that had somehow got swollen in the rain.

So potentially a good buy!

Haha, and there was me thinking I had found something rare and unusual. Should have guessed I suppose!
