Plumb bob

The place to talk about tools 'without tails', so come here with all your plane and chisel, burnisher and bradawl chatter.

Plumb bob

Ever needed a plumb bob but not been able to find one.

I improvised this some years back while working at my FIL's

Made me chuckle.

Can you do the Indian rope trick?
Don't like: wood, engines, electrickery, decorating, tiling, laying stone, plumbing, gardening or any kind of DIY. Not wild about spiders either.

Not always as easy a tool to use as one may think.

Slightly better with some woven cord, which took a long time locally to find, and pricey,
for silverline "heavy duty" bricklayers stringline and pins.
Suppose that might be a good thing they were so expensive, as I'll take care of them

These blocks are a big help to say the least, and will keep the line where you want, even when shaken violently will stay still!
compared to the smallest breeze on an unrestrained line which might drive someone nuts and take a long time to settle again.

And another tip which may well help matters is the lighting.
