Oh Hell this is going to get expensive!!!

The place to talk about tools 'without tails', so come here with all your plane and chisel, burnisher and bradawl chatter.

Oh Hell this is going to get expensive!!!

This YouTube came up on my computer without being asked for. This car boot sale for tools is I’m sorry to say gentleman in America, it goes on and on with some of the strangest things I’ve ever seen and lots of things that are totally desirable and it’s not very far away!
As I said this is going to get expensive but hopefully not too addictive.
And to think I’ve just ordered a set of new chisels, oh dear, silly me. Ian

look up "wondermill deluxe jnr" they are around 14lbs. not been able to get one in europe for about 2 yrs that wasn't a stupid amount of money. I'll pm my contact details so if you do come across one and are happy to bring it back you can let me know. It is to make flour and as i am now on a wholefood diet type thing might as well grind my own as I need to make the bread from scratch to calculate what's in it :|

Hi Cabinetman.

My first 'set' of chisels came as a wedding present from my wife in 1962.

Four Marples chisels, 1", 3/4" , 1/2" and 1/4". They have the plain boxwood handles, and are still going strong. They're not much shorter mind as domestic problems got in the way around 20 years ago and woodwork was curtailed.

However, the steel is fine, and they take and hold a good edge; another reason they haven't suffered excessive sharpening. I've added to them over the years, and I normally go to eBay for chisels. Preferably Pre-WWII Marples.

I have found Narex to be satisfactory too, and I bought a set from Matthew about 10 years ago. I like them, and eventually got used to the handles! So I am pretty well-off for chisels!

Hope that helps, although, I agree it all gets expensive.

PS. Just realised this has nothing to do with a grain-mill. Sorry folks; a Senior Moment!

Cheers,
John
