I’ll try it after tea, I’ve got a 12v car battery we use for the duck fence.

Right in the 200 DC setting a charged car battery reads 12.6V

Tried the feed motor again and nothing even with the speed variable resistor in max. Figured I’d use the multimeter to work back through the circuits and see what it said so used a clamp to depress and hold the trigger down and the motor suddenly fired up reading 11.1V. Took the clamp off and nothing just the click of the main switch as the feed wire goes live. Added clamp motor kicks in. I am now suspecting dodgy trigger switch so will take it apart and see what’s what!

“I stand corrected” said the man after severe ankle surgery! So I assumed the switch in the torch was fine because when it was depressed ‘something’ happened. Anyway stripped it down and it looked like this:

Not much I could do to get further in but sprayed contact cleaner in and gave it a bit of a workout and this far it seems to have worked.

Thank you for your help; I’ll have a little go now and post my spattered bird poo attempts at joining two bits of steel!

Bit tall but completly passable. Nothing to be ashamed of there.
Let the puddle lead to and move from one bit to thw other to clear any undercut.

Cheers again for all the help from everyone.

It was the best of the bunch but then I have never really welded before, the rest were atrocious but as mentioned above the grinder sorted them out. Its only a stand for my oil drum garden incinerator.

Practise before i start anything more substantial!
