Thanks Dave. I must have missed that one. I would have to modify the arm quite a bit but it may be workable if I can get one apart. Will get offspring to have a look as he lives near an Ikea.
Don't like: wood, engines, electrickery, decorating, tiling, laying stone, plumbing, gardening or any kind of DIY. Not wild about spiders either.

Bob, I hunted through Ali Express using your link as a starting point and have ordered half a dozen of three different variants as a trial. The longest has 350mm projection, which may well be enough. Thanks for the suggestion.

No idea if they'll have anything at all suitable but I have used these for all the fittings in my current house. They're not cheap but are good quality.

Thanks Matt, I will peruse later. What I am looking for is quite specialised to suit my preferences for lighting paintings. I have just sold a stack of expensive brass wall picture lights that don't do the job for me.
