Quality work and well beyond my lathe capabilities. As a matter of interest, how long does it take you to make such a thing?
Don't like: wood, engines, electrickery, decorating, tiling, laying stone, plumbing, gardening or any kind of DIY. Not wild about spiders either.

Very nice Chas.
Any chance you could do a walk though of how you do the segmentation?

Dave

This piece was constructed over three days, about 10 hrs in total including preparing wood for segments and other blanks.
1. Sort and prepare wood, cut and glue up segments.
2. Machine segments, prepare base and top to match and glue up assembly.
3. Finish turn, sand and sanding seal main assembly, mount and turn lid to sanding seal level.
Three-wheel buff & wax body and lid.

This is an earlier WIP I did, most pieces are fundamentally the same routine, just chuck jaw selection or need for hot glue mount being the difference.

Only difference is I'm currently using https://www.adkwik.co.uk/one-shot-powde ... wood-glue/ since the problems with cascamite, I find it superior to Cascamite

There are some other basic WIP's links on my web site under Projects, working methods are a little crude with some but it's the finished item that counts and they may be of interest for differing holding methods used.

My last batch of Cascamite was useless. The next time I need some I’ll be trying this.

That's very nice, Chas.
The wood contrasts work beautifully.
And in just 10 hours!

Very nice Chas 8-)

Reminds me of an old pipe tobacco jar that was in use in the 60's.
