A friend of mine requested I make 2 as memorials for his late wife, one is to be in church grounds the other will go in the village conservation park, trying to fit making them in with all my other project commitments, so a bit slow on progress, A few WIP pictures:

Setting out rod, sorry not that clear a picture.

I've seen that first photo before, Phil. It's a lovely bench, with proper joinery. Nice to see some more being made. Have you thought of rounding over the top of the arm a little?

Very nice good clean work, what will you finish them with? It’s always the problem with benches that have to survive all weathers. I take it that your original photo was taken when it was new? Ian

Very nice. I hope they dont spend too long standing on grass like that. A sure fire way to encourage rot.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

cheers

Thanks for sharing. A bench like that is something I'd like to have a go at one day.

The design of that bench really is pleasing on the eye. It’s a project that I wouldn’t feel confident tackling but something to aspire to. I am looking forward to seeing it come together.

Very attractive indeed Paul. I built one a number of years ago in Oak similar to your design. It serves more as a garden feature than a seat and looks really nice. It is set up on a brick under each leg to help keep the bottom of the legs dry. I have left it untreated and it has turned a weathered grey colour.

Latest update , all done, ready to go:
Bench end.jpg

Bench front.jpg
(222.62 KiB)

The wardens at the church are going to prepare a gravel base for it to stand on, i'm looking at making some sacrificial feet which will help with longevity and hopefully slow or stop any rot, we are not putting any thing on as a finish, as I doubt anyone will tend to it in the future, going to let it weather naturally.
