Tipper truck

This is where we don't want anything but evidence of your finest wood butchering in all its glorious, and photograph laden glory. Bring your finished products or WIP's, we love them all, so long as there's pictures, and plenty of 'em!

Tipper truck

Postby Dalboy » 01 Dec 2021, 18:09

After a year of not having a workshop due to having a new one as well as major work in the garden I have at last managed a simple project for one of the great grandchildren.

As the title it is a tipper truck which does not tip as he is too young later on as he gets older I can make one which has a tipping body and maybe other things that move.

Made from tulip wood and mahogany.

I have used chestnut products spray acrylic finishes as that is the best way with so many internal corners.

It just felt good to be back in the workshop but the down side is the switch on my bandsaw gave out so new one ordered.

That’s great, I shall be starting to do Grandsons wooden toys soon, two nice planks of Beech sat waiting.
Getting the amount of detail right is crucial, too much which inevitably means little bits to break off or choke on versus bland and not likely to be used much, and so age critical re safe paint etc. Edit, looks about right to me!
Do the back wheels pivot on that centre pin? Ian

It says so much about your skill set Derek that you consider that a simple project.

Wooden toys whether made by me or given as gifts are the only one we hang onto when the kids grow up. I can see that one lasting a few generations. Great stuff
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Love it mate. Can't wait to get my workshop into a workable state so me and the boy can carry on with the crane we started about 6 years ago...

My money is on Mark’s boy leaving home before his workshop get finished. ;) :D

Standing in a steel fabricator’s/blacksmith’s workshop last night made me realise one, of many reasons, I enjoy working with wood. The smell. I just love walking into mine, even after weeks away, and taking in the aroma.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Whoooooahhh, easy boys!

Conscious of thread hijacking here, but it all depends what we mean by 'finished'... My workshop was built, structurally, a couple of years ago and all machinery moved in. Building regs signed off, all good.

I've made a shed in there and lots of other things, so does that make it finished?

Technically there is no storage, no benching and if I need to use a machine I need to move all the others around and pile up the crap on each of the tables elsewhere first, but I imagine I'm not the only one to have to do that.

So, I think my workshop is finished, in terms of structural completion, but is it where I want it to be...absolutely not. When will it be...probably never! :eusa-doh: :eusa-whistle:
Cheers

Sounds like storage is your main concern and a bench to work on Mark

I"ve had a difficult week for reasons I can't go into here, but Alf's comment, and of course Dalboy's truck, together really made my morning.

Thanks both, and D. I hope he loves it as much as we do!
