I've had a decent lunch so may not be thinking clearly, but there are only two other permutations that could be as wrong.

I have to ask - did the socket work?

And, as an Aberdonian former colleague of mine would say : 'Whay deed tha'? Steevie Waunder?'.

If it's an older installation with no RCD, then yes it'll work for some value of the word. Neutral and earth are bonded together at the supply head, so the voltage between line and earth is the same as line and neutral, and because it's AC the reversed polarity won't be noticed by a normal piece of equipment.

There's just the small issue that if the plug fuse blows because of a fault in the appliance it won't disconnect power, and that if your house is on an earth rod instead of a supplier earth system then running something with a heating element from it has the potential to energise your kitchen sink...

That really is terrible, and I speak from experience, when I was 14 I picked a metal electric fire up from a stone hearth, the live and earth had been transposed in the plug and I got a very bad electric shock that would’ve killed me if I hadn’t had the presence of mind to throw the fire away I couldn’t let go as my hands were gripping the fire, Still got a scar on the end of my thumb where it was forced into the elements of the fire, and I can still recall the 50 cycles a second shocks that seemed to be going through every part of my body. Beginning to wish I hadn’t recalled it now. Ian

It is an older property which has no electrical safety certificate as it had had no work done officially. My best guess is that this socket was installed when the fire place was added, Along with the double socket under the floor. The fire was plugged into this socket so I imagine it was being used. What is more concerning is the family had two young children.
We have never used the sockets in the property since we looked in the first socket.

Reminds me of the metal meat tray my father found under the floorboards of an upstairs loo. It had been placed there, many years before he bought the house, to catch a very slow drip. Eventually either the tray over flowed of it rusted away causing water marks on the ceiling below.

With that sort of wiring in evidence Michael have you checked the plumbing?

Thanks Andy we are checking the plumbing, The main power line is an armoured cable which has been laid over the central heating pipes. Not down to the previous owner I should say. We will correct it by cutting a slot in the joist and moving it over.
I did find a kitchen unit yesterday the type with the plastic adjustable legs that do not touch the ground :) it has had some repairs to the lower shelf as a new base unit is about £40 I will pick one up this morning.

This is why we are at end of play today, I was looking for some domino centre panel connectors to locate the drawer dividers but have decided to go with standard dominos and pocket screws. We forgot to order drawer slides so that may cause us a delay.

Reminds me of my friend who had a removals firm, went to size up a job and the customer had built a large cabinet (in the house), absolutely no way to get it out again! Ian

Looking good Michael, I hope you/she will find a mattress of similar quality.
As the only sensible way to get UK single size mattress over here ( yes euro mattresses are a different size) I have bought and been very satisfied with the Emma mattress in a box. During my self imposed Covid isolation I spent over a week on one and found it more comfortable than our conventional mattress.

Thanks Ian the domino connector set is out so my plan is to use dry dominos with plenty of pocket screws to provide the strength.
Andy the mattress was ordered in good time and has been delivered it is a king size be btw. My daughter has mobility issues so the bed needs to be this height.
I must admit to some measuring errors, some were down to a poor quality tape measure but most were down to me confusing inside dimensions and outside. not having the bed built to try it in place was also a big mistake.
The domino has saved me by allowing a small section to be added.

I have struggled with runners in the past, recommend a jig to get the position the same on them all. They nearly all come with nasty sticky grease on them which I take time to remove the majority, it transfers to hands then to the work— horrible, they work so much better without it as well. Ian

Thanks Ian, a jig is an excellent idea. If anyone has any reccomendations for making or buying a jig I would appreciate it. The Kreg and Rockler ones have some really bad reviews.

More dry fitting this time with pocket screws along with the dominos.

Image2022-05-06_03-00-25 by my0771, on Flickr

I decided to add some dominos along the top of the side panels / drawer fronts to aid matching them before I knew what had happened I had a row of 10 holes :) The bed rail on the tight setting and the unit panel on the mid setting.

I spent the sunny weekend priming everything with acyrlic primer, Today I have glued up the pieces to make the leg extensions.

Being honest I did have second thoughts about buying the domino machine, Once you have used one it is incredible how quickly you can join things together.

Yes Andy all outside good job I made the deck level :D although the bedroom is huge I prefer to work at home.
If anyone has any advice on drawer runners I need to decide if I can fit them when the side panels are flat on the bench.
I have faced all of the plywood side panels with painted pine that will show when the drawers are open (more dominos)
The legs are the main joint between the sides and end panels.

A quick update, Everything has had a coat of primer. I have fitted the supports along the top and bottom edges of the drawer sides, which can be seen in this picture.

ImageIMG_1999 by my0771, on Flickr

In order to get the maximum support I have cut some corner pieces which have been pocket holed in place.

ImageIMG_2011 by my0771, on Flickr

I have made some leg extensions which will be added next.
Still unsure about fitting the drawer runners, there will be a 30mm plinth along the top bottom of the sides. The total height it 580mm so the drawer fronts will be 520mm less kerf. This will leave around 490mm for the two drawer boxes.
If anyone can see any issues with this please let me know.

Now the sun has come out it is time to move the bed frame inside  typical

ImageIMG_2057 by my0771, on Flickr

This is alomst its final position some undercoating to do. As I wanted the whole thing to be removable it is pocket screws and doninos.
Drawer boxes and fronts are next.

The frame is now assembled, I started the drawer boxes about 10 days ago.

Image2022-06-12_09-00-13 by my0771, on Flickr

It may have been a mistake to build the outer frames and then add the bases but as we were adding paper to the inside of the box this seemed like a good idea at the time.

I dont know if anyone is still reading this, But as I am almost finished I thought I would post the next few pictures.

It looks like I managed to get the runners in the right places.
I am painting the drawer fronts at the moment and will fit them once they are dry.

The dust cover is 6mm ply which needs to have a joint along the 2022mm edge has anyone got a good method

Does this join rest on the central bare wood piece of what looks to be 2 x 1?
If so that would appear adequate so maybe I don't understand the question.
