Not wishing to impose....

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

Not wishing to impose....

Postby toolsntat » 17 Jun 2021, 08:51

So just asking if you folks would like to see the content topic for each week's Benchtalk101 like I do elsewhere?
Cheers Andy

Not quite sure what you are asking Andy
5 out of your 12 posts are mentioning it so far which seems pretty good coverage if not excessive as a proportion?

With a bit more research this seems to be a YouTube channel.
Somewhere there is a thread of things to watch on you tube so maybe add it to the list there?
Does that help?

It’s a weekly Zoom meeting of woodies, Bob. Andy’s asking whether it’s alright to post up the information each week about the topic that will be covered in the meeting (which can be quite varied) which is later put up on YouTube. I think Andy just doesn’t want to feel unwelcome in his posting of it, hence the question :)

I think perhaps having a “Benchtalk101” thread where it gets posted each week would be a good idea. To be informed of it by the organisers you have be on conventional social media such as Farcebook or Instagratification, which leaves out people who don’t participate on these but do on forums so Andy goes out of his way to spread the word.

Ah Thanks Dan for the explanation.
Not my sort of thing hence I was unaware of the live nature and an agenda etc
Seems a good idea to have a single topic on here with advance posting of the agenda and followed by any ensuing discussion of the content, then next weeks agenda and so on. If it popular it will stay towards the top of a page otherwise nature will take its course.....

Although youtube content is often a small scale commercial venture I don't feel myself that this contravenes our rules - other mods and Admin might take a different view?
If the primary aim is to spread knowledge and expertise of woodwork (even if it is neanderthal in nature  )
then I feel it is what THW2 is here for.

Go for it Andy!

I don’t believe there is any monetary gain from the meetings nor the YouTube channel (which is probably not quite large enough to be monetised by YouTube standards), it’s run by woodworking enthusiasts for woodworking enthusiasts, similar to the ethos of WH2. It’s akin to having a natter down the pub about a specific topic, in which case this week it is all about work holding methods, very exciting!

Good decision Bob and Mark.
It really is non-commercial and more fun if you join in.

The meeting details (for the Zoom part) are the same every week.

Posts on here can be a good reminder for those of us who don't want to play in Zuckerberg's garden.

Andy, thanks for the compliment and apologies for not grasping the question fully, I was only part way through my first caffeine shot.

I reckon if you start a thread in Hand Tools then you should get most of the target audience who are going to appreciate the material. It could get a bit lost in general woodworking.

Apologies for not being that clear and thanks for the others in clarifying.
It's as said more to do with letting folks know that they are welcome to view or be part of the discussions in the live and free zoom meetings.

Where might be the best place for the posts on here?
It can be a range of different subjects.
Cheers Andy

Maybe our posts crossed.

Without the benefit of having seeing any of the output, I'd made the assumption it would be more about hand tool techniques rather than machining of wood hence suggesting the Hand tools forum.

Why not start it in there and if it develops wider than appropriate we can consider moving it later.

Sorry Bob, just popped it in general while you were posting as its quite a broad spectrum of subjects.
If you want to make any changes please do so.

Have done. it is in hand tools with a shadow left in general woodworking.
