OK Its official. I'm old

Hang up your Chisels and Plane blades and take a load off with a recently turned goblet of your favourite poison, in the lounge of our Gentlemen's (and ladies) Club.

OK Its official. I'm old

SWMBO and I went to our sons graduation ceremony yesterday. We were greeted at the Guildhall entrance by a member of the academic staff with "Are you the proud Grandparents"
WTF!
"No we are the proud parents but we just haven't worn very well"

ATB to your son Bob, great achievement. I forget exactly what he was studying. Something to your line of work I think. I bet you and Janice are indeed very proud.

I could be drawing a pension before any of mine graduate

Congrats to your son, Bob. You both must be dead chuffed.

Going the opposite way age-wise, there is Steve..interesting chap...nuclear engineer..walks his dog and I stop sometimes to have a chinwag. One day he says to me "Was that your daughter in the car with you the other day"

Thanks Andy.
David got a 1st BEng Hons in Electronic Engineering. He took his finals in 2020 but covid etc delayed the ceremony until now.
The old man only got a 2:1 Bsc Hons in Computing and Cybernetics (information processing in man and machine) from University of Kent at Canterbury where your daughter may be heading I think you said.
SWMBO got her state pension in 2015 and mine in 2018. I retired from the day job in 2009
So maybe we deserved the "grandparents" association after all.

I was fifty five, my lad eight. I picked him up from rugby after school and had to go inside to get him as after school they weren't allowed out until someone met them. I walked up the corridor and one of his classmates shouted Matt, your grandad's here! Matt looked around the corner and said that's not my grandad! Oh, sorry, said the boy, your great grandad, then.

We had our youngest when I was 49 and my wife 47.

When she was still very young, we went somewhere where my wife was asked "Is that your granddaughter?" at which point my wife started breastfeeding the little one. "I bet that had her stumped" my wife said to me afterwards - not many grandmothers can do that :o

Katie is now about to turn 17. I've taught her to use my 30" bandsaw, my woodlathe and my SCMS safely, and she uses the big Wadkin PK under my supervision. She's the only one of my three kids to show any interest in my tools (my son is an economist - doesn't know one end of a chisel from the other).

Cheers, Vann.

We can't compete with you guys. My wife produced our first when we were both aged 28. One of her younger colleagues at work said to her "I think you're so sensible to leave having children until you're older. At least you've had your life"

Sounds like you are all youngsters.

My Son has been retired 12 months.
My Daughter is two years older than I was when I retired.
Grandchildren have finished uni and setup independent home or in mid uni phase.

A couple more years and I will have retired as long as I was at work, and I retired with enough service to qualify for forty years pension credit.

The days are too short, weeks/months/years are just recycled calendar events; all my hard won photographic and Hi-Fi gear was to all intents and purposes obsolete several years ago, (the record collection now sits on my keyring and 'phone.)

A six mile trek amongst the West Yorkshire moors and associated escarpments seems to be about the limit for a days exercise when looking for a change of scenery.

And the tool and equipment collection sits around unused most of its life having been absent due to funding restrictions 80 % of my life.

But Hey, we woke up this morning and the sun is shining and there's some free shed time available (after the cup of coffee I can hear being made on the fancy machine of course)

I was outside the church at my sister's wedding. As she walked by, a young lad turned to his friend and said bl++dy hell! She's a bit long in the tooth for that sort of thing, isn't she?
She was twenty eight.

I don't know about getting old but certainly my brain is. I was tidying the workshop up a bit and came cross this matching pair.

Clearly the chamfer is there for a purpose but what exactly I simply can't remember. Thing is, that it's within the last three months

Looks like a scarf joint, but your brain said it's cold outside and you went to the cupboard, got out a scarf and put it on! :)
