I have, in the last hour, clocked up my 10,000th subscriber. Just call me Woodie Pie.
It's only taken 16 years...

The population of a small town likes you enough to want to know when you have something to say. There are polutionistions, no that's wrong, politicians who wish for that.

Just remember that with great power comes great responsibility.

Congratulations Steve!

Going by that rate, it's going to take another 144 years before you get the 100,000 subscriber milestone

I don't know which is sadder, the fact itself or the fact that you went to the trouble of calculating it...

If you aren't given one of those YouTube plaques, you ought to make one out of a nice bit of hardwood, for the back of shot.

That's a good q, Lurker. The honest answer is that I don't know. Clearly a lot of them are not that bothered otherwise every video would have at least 10K views, and most never get to there or anywhere close. Often it is still in the hundreds, even after a year.

This last one had a massive uplift when YT put it on people's home page, and then it crashed again when YT pulled it. Toobers are at the complete mercy of YT's algorithms, as far as I can tell. There is no rhyme or reason.

And……………..
How do y tubers earn money?

Sorry about dumb questions as u tube generally has passed me by.

The most useful u tube I have ever seen was a bloke changing a pollen filter in a car like mine. So easy when you know where the various catches are.
Friends and family all now use me to do theirs, it’s very satisfying as it’s quick and clean and saves a fortune vs garage prices.

This thread reminds me of James Blunt’s tweets about followers.
I do not think therefore I do not am.

Unless they get sponsorship from a dealer, it's by advertising.

When you watch a video you are presented with adverts. Some you can skip, some you can't. Some play full-screen, some are overlay. Some are pre-roll, some are mid-roll.

The Toober gets paid according to how many people watch the ads and for how long, and if they click on them. So if they use an ad-blocker then the content creator does not get anything. The viewer gets something for nothing, the Toober gets nothing for something.

Monies are paid monthly, on balances over £60. So some months I receive nothing at all and it is rolled over until next month. I expect to receive £63.04 in the next day or two.

I had never received a penny until a couple of years ago, because there are various thresholds and hoops you need to jump through before you are deemed worthy. Until then, adverts still play, but YT keep all the revenues from them.

It's money for old rope really, isn't it?

James Blunt is well known for his Twitter put downs. Someone had a go at him for only having 100,000 followers to which he replied that Jesus only had 12. :)

My personal fave

"James Blunt - what the hell has he done lately?" - JB "3 backstage parties and 2 supermodels - how about you?"
Two thirds of people don't have a clue about fractions - and the other half aren't much better.
Good decisions are based on experience. Unfortunately experience is built on bad decisions.
