Small Lincolnshire market town called Caistor, was in the distant past going to have a canal, didn’t get the canal but did get the Irish Navigators who stayed. Still a large Irish contingent who it must be said do like a drink, and Caistor did have a lot of pubs, it was a thing for some of the lads from Grimsby 20 miles away to come over on a Saturday night and pick a fight.
Bernie Taupin Who was born in my native village of Humberston near Grimsby wrote a song about it called Saturday nights alright for fighting. Ian

I attended a funeral a couple of weeks back near where I live in Romsey and the churchyard is the location of Florence Nightingale's grave.

My mum and dad are in the same cemetery as the Krays.

The Kray family have a significantly bigger plot.

Ronnie and Reggie were said to visit a street not far from where I grew up so that was somewhere to avoid. Could have just been an unfounded rumour of course.

Robert Thompson - the Mouseman furniture maker was born and worked from a neighbouring village and his company is still there.

My daughters went to the same school that Judi Dench attended. They chose it over the school that Guy Fawkes had attended when we moved here.

The real Long John Silver is buried round the corner, the inspiration for RLS. Conan Doyle was also up the road. Ian Banks also lived up the road. There are a couple of TV comedians who live round the corner whom Graham Norton visits, had a BBQ with them just before lock down. Thomas Morton inventer of the patent slip for ships and boats. JK Rowling, Irvin Welsh writers also Eduardo Paolozzi artist. The father of William Gladstone PM. Oh and Eric winkle Brown the most type certified test pilot in history just under 500 different models he tested and certified for use in the UK

And a few others I can't remember

Saw a program about him, he was an incredible person, also most entertaining. The first man to land a jet on an aircraft carrier. Without doubt he had flown more types of plane than anyone else including the lethal rocket powered ww2 German fighter, no wheels it landed on a skid and lots blew up killing the pilots.
Ps forgot I grew up next door to Amy Johnsone’s cousin, first woman to fly from the uk to Australia, how’s that for tenuous!

As a youth I would watch Wolfsbane &The Famous Potatoes to name 2 at my local & Julian Cope lived not far away, there were lots of other famous folk including Robert Peel but if they didn’t play music I wasn’t really interested in those days.

My home town is the birthplace of a notable bioweapon enthusiast and genocidalist, who remains honoured to this very day in the names of streets and schools.

No one famous comes from where I live, and it's very unlikely that I will change that.
Don't like: wood, engines, electrickery, decorating, tiling, laying stone, plumbing, gardening or any kind of DIY. Not wild about spiders either.

Don Partridge lived local at some point in his life.
Used to see him up Castle Street in Hinckley on the odd Saturday.

RLS was the black sheep of his family, and far less well known than them in his lifetime. The Stephenson family were famous lighthouse builders (building Bell Rock and Barra.something.lighthouse amongst many others), and saved countless thousands as a result.

Rabbie Burns is supposed to have stayed in our house.

But then again, he seems to have stayed everywhere.
