• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    A Better Rat Trap

Rats can be quite destructive and they will invite their mates around for a party. I’d suggest a good pest control professional who will not only deal with the rat but also track where it has found a way in is needed. We had a rat problem with a rental property. The managing agent faffed...

I Need Help — Tapering Model Ship Masts & Spars without a Lathe .

There is a jig in this thread that I use for tapering stool legs which may help you design one https://www.thewoodhaven2.co.uk/threads/making-another-stool-wip-finished.11880/ Hope it helps Robert

I was at the cricket yesterday - it felt like winter!

Sorry for your loss Gill. For me, Bob has summed it up. It's what you believe that matters. Take care.

    Another pet gone...

Sorry for your loss Mark. It sounds like you’ve given her a long and happy life.

    Woo Hoo....Reacher's back

I just watched 15 minutes of Reacher and couldn’t take any more. Back to watching Band of Brothers again.

Making another stool WIP - Finished!

The next job was to trim the tenons … then shape the seat. … and I immediately regretted not having shaped the seat before assembly as I have done previously. The reason I didn't was because I wanted to see if the ends of the tenons blended in better doing it this way but I overlooked how...

What size chisels do you use the most?

I agree with all of the above. An 1/8” (or metric equivalent) is extremely useful when fitting jewellery box locks though.

    Wood pellet storage risks.

The risk of carbon monoxide poisoning from wood pellets isn’t new. We’ve had a Hargassner wood pellet boiler for 12 years and it was discussed when that went in. It’s managed by air vents just above floor level. I believe on the continent it has been the practice to put the pellet store and...

    Blood (without the gore!)

That’s similar to how I found out. I remember my mum telling me and my siblings what we all were. I’ve no idea how she knew and assume it was because she’d asked when we were born. I’m B negative which is quite rare - 1:50.

Making another stool WIP - Finished!

Having decided the height I wanted to place the stretchers I used a spirit level to set a sliding bevel gauge to the drilling angle. The position for the hole to be drilled in each leg is measured from the bottom of the seat. This is the set up I used to drill the holes using a 12mm flat...

Making another stool WIP - Finished!

I got some “help” tidying up all the shavings … … and then tidied up the shoulders of the tenons on the legs. Having checked that the best grain pattern on each leg is facing outwards and I mark the shoulder line as shown... Using a sharp chisel it’s then easy to establish a neat...

Post a photo of the last thing you made...

@Doug I’ve never seen anywhere that offers a tantalising service. Is it a timber merchant that loads your item in with the timber they process or offered as a standalone service? Cheers

    Field fire....

I think you’ll find that statistic covers three years - it was mentioned on Sky News last week. Still surprising though. Edit - just checked and it covers Jan 22 - Dec 24

    Blood (without the gore!)

I can understand why that feels good Mark. My last donation went to Guys Hospital - it’s a nice touch that they let donors know where it ended up.
