• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Google AI or ChatGPT

That is a flawed comparison. RTOS are more likely to be designed to be linear and not progress until the previous task has been completed. Even then tasks may be performed simultaneously. AI can and does multitask - the two most common examples are multi-task learning and multi-agent...

    We've been invaded.....

I know what you mean about the feelings it invokes. We were there at the end of January 2023 and stayed in the valley at the hotel run by the reservation. Waking up to the view was something else. We did the drive through which was supposed to be restricted to 4x4’s due to the ice and snow...

The road from Mexican Hat to Monument Valley is where Forrest Gump stopped running. I remember filling up with petrol in Mexican Hat … your description is overly generous Bob 🤣

Glut of soft fruit.....tip for keeping fresh

I believe that shop bought apples tend to have been irradiated which is similar to pasteurisation and gives them a substantially longer shelf life. Storing apples laid out on a shelf in a cool place out of direct light works for us. We have a few different varieties and the ones that naturally...

    We've been invaded.....

The teasing of Adrian about his menu reminds me of a restaurant we saw in Arizona a couple of years ago. IIRC it was just outside Flagstaff and called the Roadkill Cafe. The menu was true to the name. Fortunately it was shut so there was no need to be “holiday brave” and add it to the list of...

Interesting fish course tonight then 😉

    care homes

I have mixed feelings about this. I agree with the central principle that sustaining low quality of life “for the sake of it” leads to misery and is wrong. My concern though is how the decision is reached. Everyone on here with one are I’m sure blessed with a family whose members will not...

    Spitfire !

Thanks Roger - great backstory. I’m not keen on that pale blue livery. I used to live next to RAF Benson which was a base for the Reconnaissance Spitfires and remember being told that the RAF developed a particular shade of pink for flying at dawn and dusk. The fighter pilots were extremely...

    Damn blood thinners

I can appreciate how that must make you feel Bob. I saw a friend today who has been struck down with gout. After the inevitable p take about rich food and port I learned it’s not quite so straightforward. He’ll be on tablets permanently. We were reflecting on how we were once invincible...

    Spitfire !

Do you know the story behind the plane you flew in Roger?

    Spitfire !

Looks like you had a good day for it Roger and lived up to expectations. It will be good to see more. I’d recommend (if you’ve not already read it) First Light by Geoffrey Wellum.

I agree Roger, lead may lead others into temptation 😉. Being serious, it’s also an issue around here.

The Benefits Of A Hobby After Retirement

I agree, hobbies help with mental health and in easing into retirement. My sense is that retirement shouldn’t have a set definition. It’s a period of your life where you can hopefully choose what you want to do and when to do it a lot more than perhaps you could before.

    Church Noticeboard

It’s a bit out of character for this forum to have someone who is doing a good deed being told to not bother as churches are made up of unreasonable people and attended by idiots. Perhaps the hot weather is making people grumpy? Just saying.

    Church Noticeboard

There are fixings for pergola posts that keep the timber out of the ground which may be suitable. They are called Simpson Strongtie (other brands may be available!) and I’m pretty sure @Mike G had something similar made for a project but I cannot find the thread? My guess is the St Peter’s...
