• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Nervous about Surgeon

I’m guessing that you mean Whitehaven. Fair enough if you’ve had a bad experience at the NHS facilities that happen to be there to call that out but there’s really no need to denigrate places that members may live or originate from IMO.

    Good Internet "Tutors"

Although probably now classed as “vintage” Jim Kingshott’s videos are good.

    Any Monty Python aficionados?

A very funny film - particularly the wedding reading!

    Where were you …

… 25 yeas ago today? I’d just started a new job and was visiting to Sydney to look at how investment platforms worked in Australia. It was the last evening of the trip and I was in the hotel room gathering my stuff for the flight back the following day. A colleague called my room to tell me a...

    Goodies from Lee Valley Tools

I visited the Lee Valley store just outside of Ontario (Pickering?) when we were in Canada in May. Shame we don’t have them in the UK. I guess Axminster were trying to emulate them when they started opening up stores a few years ago.

    Hot cup mark on table

I think if I suggest setting light to anything his wife may go up in smoke - there’s a bit of marital friction over whose mug caused the issue! I’ve suggested all of the above (at his own risk) and also pointed him to a product from Liberon called Ring Remover which Restorate recommended...

    Hot cup mark on table

Thanks guys. It’s Rubberwood and I think it’s a lacquer finish. I’ll pass the suggestions and a suitable caveat on and let him get on with it!

    Hot cup mark on table

Any suggestions for how to make good a hot cup ring that has been left on a table? A neighbour has asked me - he’s been told to use a damp towel and an iron which sound odd to me. Thanks in anticipation of any guidance. Robert

Post a photo of the last thing you made...

Thanks Mike. It seems that when I make one someone sees it and enquires if they can have one made. I get a few enquiries on Instagram which, unless I know the person in real life, I politely decline. Robert

Thanks - it’s finished with these. I normally use satin rather than gloss but this is what the client wanted and they know best! Cheers

    A Better Rat Trap

Rats can be quite destructive and they will invite their mates around for a party. I’d suggest a good pest control professional who will not only deal with the rat but also track where it has found a way in is needed. We had a rat problem with a rental property. The managing agent faffed...
