• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Right, exciting moment in the project, the station moulds have gone up, so now you can see the shape of the boat. Incidentally, I keep telling myself that I need to take more photos and do more updates on this thread with photos and text. I will try to do that in future, but I make no promises...

Finally got the hog laid on top of the keel. It's been a bit troublesome, it took a lot longer than I had expected.

Nearly caught up with the videos I forgot to post, here's another episode. I'm also trying to take more photos of the work, so hopefully I can post some detailed photo updates sometimes.

Duelling chainsaws... My mate Ollie using a petrol Stihl, while I use my battery-powered Hawksmoor, to cut the stem knee for Lady Garnet. Interestingly, I see that this design is no longer for sale. Hawksmoor sell a shorter bar, powered by one battery, but the two-battery, 40 cm bar is gone...

Here's another catch-up episode I forgot to post, I know some of you subscribe on YouTube so you'll likely have seen this already!

Apparently I've been forgetting to post updates... The oak bends that I was struggling to source have arrived! And there's two more episodes since this as well, which I will post later.

Mike builds a teardrop (tongue box and conduit)

I see. It probably is the cell structure, as you say, but might be worth trying another test with a shorter steaming time, an hour for 8mm might have been too much for it and caused it to crack? I'd go for twenty minutes, which roughly fits with the old "hour per inch" steaming rule. Did you...

It was the test pieces of bog oak I meant, I see you did say you'd steamed the pieces for an hour, but I was just curious how thick they were.

First of all, @Mike G, your work is absolutely splendid, I've just been scrolling back through all the photos, really lovely! I'm curious, how thick was the oak you steamed, and how long did you steam it for? Steaming with a plastic bag is a very good method indeed, although it has a few...

An exciting moment for Lady Garnet as I raise the stern post... and I (finally) get good news on the grown oak bends!

Yes, if you follow the link from video #9 to my YouTube channel, all the episodes are in a YouTube playlist called Building Lady Garnet.

Thank you for the sub! I share this on the Wooden Boat Forum as well, and the boatbuilding reddit. Your username does sound familiar though.

I haven't posted since the storm, but there are quite a few tree surgeon groups that I belong to on Facebook.

Rather momentous episode... Laying the keel! If I can only sort those grown oak bends (the place in Norfolk has promised to cut them next week...) then I expect to make some great progress over the next month.
