• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    3D printer questions

I've never tried that, but I think it would as when I bag the 3DQF reels that are cardboard the bag pulls the cardboard down tight as the bag conforms tightly to the shape and stays that way for weeks. I don't think they do bigger bags (some do smaller!) as they are marketed specifically for...

    3D printer questions

Just seen this thread whilst doing a catchup browse... If you want a reliable UK manufacturer for filament have a look at 3DQF based in Manchester- cardboard spools, free quick delivery and reliable printing quality. I have tried a fair few amazon 'main' brands' but now use 3DQF whenever I...

    Workshop Uses for 3D Printing

Its been a while since i've checked into the forum, so have a lot of 'unread' posts to catch up on, and this one has inspired me to make even more 3d prints for the workshop (I'm already on my 3rd bandsaw insert). I've had my 3d printer (a Voxelab Aquila) for a couple of years now and have made...

Can anyone identify this wood (probably from France)

Hi, A colleague at work asked me today if I knew what wood he had (see pics). All he knew was that it had been stored in a barn in France for at least 40 years before he was given it.I didn't know (but best guess would be french walnut) but hopefully someone on the forum can help! Thanks...

Oregon chainsaw blade part number suffixes - what they mean

A few days ago I purchased a dewalt 54v chainsaw kit (DCM575X1 GB) from FFX for over a £100 less than I could find it anywhere else. That same night I went looking for spare chain(s) and realised its an Oregon chain 90PX056, However different sellers are listing these with no suffix, an E or...

    Store Flat Rabbit Run

Over the years I've made quite a few rabbit runs, but this one is the best yet, It’s robust and can be easily assembled, disassembled and stored by one person. The one in my garden has 6 frames, so depending on how the garden is being used on a given day, the rabbits can have a big run (all 6)...

Getting forum projects published in a magazine

I'm posting this in tips as its not a project ...but may be useful info to anyone that has created and published projects on this or other forums (e.g. my understairs storage unit or the corner summerhouse ones from last year) and wants to also hopefully see them in a magazine..... Earlier...

turning a wooden snowman and tree

Hi Andy, the extraction is pretty low tech! Its a length of 100mm 'stayput' hose http://www.axminster.co.uk/stayput-extr ... se-ax22323 connected to a 90 degree bend and then a length of normal 100mm hose long enough to reach where I can connect the normal hose ( that links to my chip...

turning a wooden snowman and tree

Given my avatar is a set of wooden snowman I really should have created a video on how I turn them before now! Over the years I've turned many hundreds of both painted and polished wooden snowmen for family and friends. One recently asked me if I had a video of making them, i didn't but do...

Turners Retreat pen assembly and disassembly tools review

Last week I turned a pen for my granddaughter and started to assemble it in my usual way, using my woodworking vice as a press. The twist mechanism was a very tight fit and I could feel the assembly getting out of line but just about managed to complete the assembly. I'd toyed with buying a...

how to attach a shelf unit to a cupboard base?

I've been asked by a friend if I could make a seating/cupboard shelving unit similar to a pinterest image they had, but sized to fit their space. I've done a basic sketchup model (no edge or door/drawer detail) just to get an idea of materials cost using cutlist and Optimik (sheet planner s/w)...

how to use BLUM hinge template 65.5300

I decided to write this "how to" guide as I recently bought one of the blum templates for fitting cabinet hinge plates (the bit that goes on the carcase not the door) and was confused with most website definitions that said it could also transfer measurements from the door. I searched on the...

Understairs storage - drawers and a cupboard

The next project on the list after the summerhouse that I finished a few months ago was to build under the stairs storage to improve on this (taken on a 'good' day) In recent months (probably due to searching for solutions) facebook had started pushing sponsored adverts for modular storage...

is there a 'standard' for Euro hinges??

I ask the question because I'd always thought that there was a standard (i.e. hole size 35mm, 5mm from door edge for the normal kitchen cabinet 18mm overlay hinges with fitting holes 32mm from edge and 45mm apart) but I've just ordered some Salice hinges and the main fitting is the normal 35mm...

None of my images appear when viewed in tapatalk

I rarely use tapatalk but earlier this week had a notification of a response to my corner summerhouse post and I only had my mobile with me so I used tapatalk. I could see all my text but none of the images were displayed - if I clicked the links I got page not found. My images are hosted in...
