• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    I don't have a tail vise on my bench. I usually just use holdfasts and battens which work fine 98% of the time.     Very cool! I have ordered tools from Shelter Tools, who is also The Shelter Institute https://www.shelterinstitute.com/. They teach online and in-person timberframing using mainly hand tools. Have been wanting to take one of their courses, probably some day.

    Its funny you mention that because I did notice the cutter I was using was bent so i tried hammering it straight as i could. But to be honest i don’t remember which direction it was bent before. I’ll doublecheck it in a bit and see if any others are. I only ever use the 1/4”

    Yeah I think it might just be the pictures/camera angle. But yeah yeah I knocked it several times with a 4 lb sledge on my vise anvil to get it a little off square. Its mainly for clearance for your plane, similar to a planing stop.

    Not only is it hideous. But I saw a guy on another forum try to strip off the orange paint, but the casting is really rough cast, so when he spray painted it black, it looked terrible too. I suppose one could maybe scuff the orange with a wire brush or something and paint over it. Personally...

    By the way, in the US, the Jorgensen planes at Lowes are actually decent for the money. I think the smoother is around $70. With a couple of hours of fettling and tuning it can be a decent smoother. The little block plane and the 60 1/2 is also decent for the price. Ugly orange but oh well
