• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

The Bas…..s got me 11 times

I do that, I'm sure I've seen the odd tipsy blackbird as the apples get a bit fermented

    We've been invaded.....

Sorry to here that. They really do have personalities. Theres a woman named Ron on insta who had a fish that had a stroke and developed swim bladder issues. It couldnt maintain bouyancy so she made a couple of floats to cradle it and keep upright whilst she did months of physio.

Glut of soft fruit.....tip for keeping fresh

Any advice on apples? Last year I kept a few from an eater and cooker tree. Put them in the bottom of the fridge, maybe 40 altogether. They went crinkly quicker than the shop bought ones.

    care homes

My daughter says there is a poor woman who has become blind, deaf and unable to walk and just sits there. When she is fed she begs to die. It is surprising how many people do not want to be there and say they want to go home. They have full cognition and say they have there own home. I suspect...

    care homes

I'm not sure how long she will last. I reckon she will become a whistlblower or get ill. 12hr shifts with one break looking after 30 male dementia patients with only two other staff. And this is a mid level 'care village'. The stories and expectations are grim and all for less than a tesco...

    care homes

You may remember me whining on about my daughter starting care work, anyway she left that employer because they were only giving her the scraps of work. (zero hour) contract. She started with a local care home and has been doing a good job by all accounts. One disturbing trend she has noticed is...

The Bas…..s got me 11 times

worse thing was she didnt tell me till later on, she went in the kitchen to try and hold in the laughter. On the subject of bugs, something has died in the bedroom chimney. Theres about 70 blue bottles flying around the room.

The Bas…..s got me 11 times

My wife swatted a wasp in the house once and went to chuck it outside, unfortunately I was working at the threshold crouched down, as she threw the semi alive thing out of the door it went straight down my butt crack and had enough energy in it to sting me a couple of times. That made me jump a...

    Bird table

    Bird table

On the subject of bird feeders we noticed the contents going really quickly and one day noticed why. A big old rat sat on top filling its belly. Mrs had got the feeder from aldi and it was on a little pole/spike quite close to ground. I had the bright idea to raise it on a thin chrome what I...

    Mumbles

I saw my first wild barn owl whilst driving recently, it was flying low in a field parrallel to the road I was on. Amazing sight. Cant remember which forum it was on but someone put a picture up of a kids climbing frame in their garden which regularly got 8 barn owls sitting on it. My wife...

    Blood pressure

I've been on proton pump thingies for 25years for acid reflux. I've always wanted to get off them so have tried every snake oil going. I thought I'd cracked it a while ago whilst trialing various pre/pro biotics. I managed to taper off the medication and felt fine for a couple of weeks. Then it...

    Hot Heat 2026

My inlaws had this mindset, open everything up backdoor, frontdoor let the air through. I tried so many times to explain you are just bringing the hot air through your house. Our place was battened down and a good 10degrees cooler than outside. Obviously the longer the heat continues the more...
