• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Black Stain for exterior sapele

Good evening all I’ve a garden gate/door and frame to build and fit at my place, existing gates are black so i’ll continue the theme, would rather have a stain and hopefully retain a bit of grain visible in the finish, they’ll be built from sapele ( as its what i have) . A bit of online...

Maybe subsidies is the wrong word, but there are payments made to farmers of some sorts, the last conversation i had with one small hill farmer was about a requirement to turn a certain percentage of his land for tree planting, but to do so meant he’d have to use what little flat low lying land...

Yep, your observations sum things up nicely, there are some spectacular private houses/estates dotted about built on fortunes made from slate and the industrial tycoons from the midlands of days gone by. Their survival depends solely on wealthy outsiders with the money to maintain them , they...

Chris152, my parents moved there in ‘87, currently in process of selling the place and mum moving back closer, she’s in coastal mid wales just inside the snowdonia national park. The whole feel of the place has changed in the last 15 years, lots discontent amongst the farming community that...

It very much depends where in wales you are, some areas mid and north wales its very much the first language of the middle aged and above. The 29.2% figure will be very skewed given that it is COMPULSORY that welsh is taught to 5-16 year olds in school. A not uncommon complaint from parents is...

In wales they have a different problem, the requirement for many posts for being able to speak welsh hinders recruitment, the authorities argument that no problem exists as employers can seek an exemption is little more than hot air as a professional in healthcare is often going to have an...

The main problem with dentistry is lack of education about oral/ dental health in schools and similar lack of interest of many parents and kids. A friend is a primary school “behaviour mentor” nasically does all sorts with any kid that has issues/misbehaves, has to assess every kid that arrives...

Yep, you wouldn’t believe it, the failures at Margate maternity department traumatise those going there. I’ve a friend in hospital there that has to use different phrases for various to find what some nurses understand, things as simple as asking for the curtains to be drawn whilst using the...

My personal opinion is that there’s a very carefully concocted system to make the seem to work better than it does. I had an urgent referral, get a message from nhs saying its been received and eventually reading through the message getting to a bit that says if i’ve not heard from them by “x”...

    Travel insurance.

Is that insurance not the one that notionally effectively free as part of paying the flexplus account fee? If so it also includes UK and european breakdown cover, family mobile phone insurance and no fees for using the flexplus debit card abroad ( though how good their exchange rates are i don’t...

    Pay to read?

Often perceived racism should be considered alongside the socioeconomic status and level of education of the person being seen as racist ( misogynistic, biggoted etc etc). Many times words used are often intended as descriptive and to define someone who is “other”, the language used purely that...

    Elforyn

Thanks for that, never occurred to me that mammoth tusk would be so plentiful , found a couple of sellers online small pieces seem sensibly priced if it’s what’s required. However i’ve gone for a piece of elforyn, comes in a suitable round so there’ll be very little waste and much cheaper ( so...

    Bats

In general a dry bat dropping will crumble to dust with vey little pressure, mouse droppings are much denser and harder to crush, the difference is very obvious.

    Elforyn

Good evening All I’ve some drawer pulls i need to replace ( originals missing) they were ivory and obviously that’s not an option. However a web search throws up a material called Elforyn which has been produced as an ivory substitute. Not a great deal i can find online about using it, but what...

    Wales 20mph speed limit

AJB, without doubt in general welsh roads are in excellent condition in comparison to the nigh on ploughed fields with cart ruts my part of kent enjoys. As in other comments the welsh 20mph is often non sensical , i’ve either got used to it ( i use same roads each journey) or signage has...

    Wales 20mph speed limit

My mother lives about 20 miles north of Aberystwyth, the 20mph zones are not as chaotic and seemingly random as they once were, conflicting signage has been removed and there’s less confusion. Must be said most locals just ignore the signs, but must be said every year there’ll be fatalities on...

    Larger router bit use. P

Again thank you, the cutter is from Wealdon and as you both mention has a suggested maximum of 16000 rpm. I don’t have any similar laminate to do a test cut on but do have some sapele offcuts of similar weight/ density. I’ll build the jig then have some practice runs with the sapele cut to fit...
