• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

Terminology - Two countries, separated by a common language

Not wanting to upset the apple cart so to speak but... Shouldn't it then be 'UK/United Kingdom' (or Britain? ) and 'America'? Wondering about Wales, Scotland and Ireland... not wanting to exclude others...

    Banking Apps

Things are worse than many of you may realise... At the weekend, and this morning, my wife received emails from Domestic & General (D&G - a home appliances repairs insurance cover company) for which we have a policy. The emails are for an Ann Etchells in Eastbourne... my wife's name is Anne...

What Is Your Self Afflicted Annoyance

😎🤔... I rest my case 😎😂😂😂... there are times we are all guilty of this 'self' affliction 😎

Ian’s new workshop. The Wonky Donkey. Ceiling joists started

I'd not thought of that Ian, good idea. I've 3 types of vice - one was my father's engineering type. Another is a small bench fitted one while the third is a small one with a thread clamp at the base for clamping to a worktop. I've yet to get to do an 'MFT' type top on the 'worktop' side of...

Ian’s new workshop. The Wonky Donkey. Ceiling joists started

That's one thing I don't have *fitted* to a bench/worktop in mine anymore Ian - a vice. I used to have one in the old fixed bench, right hand end on the long side - I'm also right handed. Seemed the right place to have one... Now, with the *modern* way (?) with MFTs 'bench dog' and the Gripper...

What Is Your Self Afflicted Annoyance

I'm quite surprised that no one has put forward their 'other half' 😎... tongue in cheek obviously ‐ but there must be times it has to be considered (by both parties) 😜 🤣

    'Bout time I thought...

Courtesy of my son from when he accompanied us on days out with the Hawks... Updated my 'avatar' to match my forum moniker. A photo of my (past) female Goshawk from my days in Falconry; 'Accipiter gentilis'.

Upgrading my wearing out shed - in stages on a budget

If it's a 'dead end' path, to me, it brings up the question "does anyone else other than you use it?"... If ONLY YOU/YOURS then... *squatters rights* comes to mind. If you've 'proof' - written confirmation the council don't own it then you could claim as yours (having *maintained it*)...

I forgot the 100ft measure... 🤔... 6 *at least*... haven't counted the *rulers*... I can confirm that @HappyHacker is correct; hence my 6 (possibly more 🤔) tape measures and why i did end up with 4 off 4" bolster chisels at one stage... As to pencils... I've at least 3 containers - and came...

Hanging a door. Some finer points

Recently had to hang a replacement door (my WIP thread...) and ended up using these hinges as I couldn't use the existing old brass ones due to the wear on them - lighter weight door than the one replacing it. (Not sure if this link will work? May prompt to use their app?)...

    Lost! Now found.

Feb 1st you put up a photo of the WIP on the chairs... I've looked at that but can't see the rule... thought it may have been in one of your photos and give a clue as to last known/seen/recorded place... sadly not. I'd be thinking/looking under the benches - even if already looked there. If...

Recovering from an op- ideas of what to do?

Find some good books to read? Either woodworking themed or entirely different... something you had an interest in but never got round to taking further. Gets you away from behind a computer screen if nothing else.

Would you try to replicate the original paint colour to the body Al or go with what you've used at present? Just wondering if I could put up a close up photo to show the colour to help.

I did wonder if the name badge would be of interest for you - with not seeing one on yours. May be of help near the end of the project if able to make one or get one made 🙏

How to get the most out of these...?

Thanks Malcolm... I'll keep you in mind 🙏. You're about 2hrs away - give or take... Instrument builds hadn't crossed my mind... In fact, as I'd got them initially all those years ago to use for Falconry blocks, because of the thickness, I'd no idea what the faces were like. Having now planed...
