• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have some batten lights in my workshop and barn. The first lot I brought over from the UK, three-and-a-half years ago. After just a few months one of them started to flicker. Then another and another. I contacted the vendor (via Amazon) and got a refund for the duff ones. I ordered more of...

A small project with a difficult joint

I have it all on CD, I must find it (and find some way of playing it). It is just magical. What a pity that the actual ending is so weak. Apparently they simply ran out of money 😯 S PS Nice bookshelf :)

    Saucy

Lurker, I understand how you have got the bottle to conform to the sander, but I don't see how you got it to conform to the inside of the nozzle. What am I missing? S

    How its made videos

Well I've not watched every minute of it, but I enjoyed the rebar segment. In the mid-70s, my wonderful Uncle Tom was a metallurgist at Johnson Matthey. He did a lot of the R&D of exhaust catalysts. He invited me to spend a day with him. It was magical. I remember that the vices in the workshop...

Glut of soft fruit.....tip for keeping fresh

I do love a drop of sloe gin, but I've never seen the sloes here since we arrived (though I'm told they do exist locally). I'll have to go and tap my friend Helga, come the autumn. She knows everything. I've got a batch of Ginger Wine on the go at the moment. I need to get it out of the way...

Glut of soft fruit.....tip for keeping fresh

My neighbour came round with 1.2kg beautiful cherries about a month ago. Half are in the freezer and the other half are steeping in a Kilner jar of brandy (or vodka, I can't remember what I used, TBH). In the UK it is easy to buy reasonably cheap Napoleon brandy. Easy drinking, nothing fancy...

Glut of soft fruit.....tip for keeping fresh

AndyP, you'd enjoy talking to Pete Maddex. Mad Pete makes fantastic Plum, Lime and Ginger jam, amongst other flavours. I'd eat more of it, but I have to watch my sugar levels. S

Glut of soft fruit.....tip for keeping fresh

I'm losing a lot of stuff at the moment, due to the drought. It's been weeks since we've had any rain, and the forecast is for more of the same for weeks to come. No rain and temperatures in the high 30s for an extended period of time, reaching up to 42C for a few days, is difficult to combat...

    We've been invaded.....

We have lots of birds round here, too. Lots of House Martin, Sparrow, Little Owl. Lots more. A couple of days ago I heard a bang and saw something fall past the window. I went outside to find the bird lying on the ground but trying to move. According to Merlin it was a Stripe-Breasted...

A small project with a difficult joint

Excellent Al, excellent. I have done many a secret mitred dovetail in my time and these days I can knock one out perfectly without guides in about 20 minutes from felling the tree to finished box. But for a beginner such as yourself, that's a pretty good first attempt. Yours sincerely Pinocchio.

The Bas…..s got me 11 times

In the UK we think of bees being black and yellow, but the ones round here in France are just black, no yellow on them at all. S

Rather you than me, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) My dad was ground crew for Spitfires during WW2. He kept them in the air. S

Not a straight edge - a cautionary tale.

Wow, I didn't even know that you could do that! No idea what happened to it.
