• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I’ve treated myself for a future project.

I agree with you on the US style Ian (which I think is known as “Colonial”) legs. It does always surprise me though that despite everything being less “chunky” than a traditional English Windsor they tend to be surprisingly robust. In case it’s of help you can download Chris Schwartz’s Stick...

They look good Ian. Are you going down the US or UK style route for the Windsor bench?

Probably a lot more attractive to look at than live in.

    Emergency alarm call

We had family round for lunch and all the phones (11) went off with the alert Roger. My daughter in law was not impressed as an hours rocking to get a teething baby to sleep was wasted!

Thanks Mike. Cherry for the body and Madrona with Kingwood banding for the lid.

    Playing Card Box

I made this as part of my ongoing exercise to use up offcuts … It has no lining pieces. The lip to hold the lid on is created by routing a groove on the internal face of the components before assembly followed by another offset groove post assembly on the external faces. The trade off...

The problem with old houses - part 2

Sorry to hear that Martin - hopefully your wife has a speedy recovery. It sounds like you have had some welcome support from your family.

Small box using up some leftover ABW and London Plane. I experimented using a panel raising cutter on the top as opposed to the usual bevel and am quite pleased with the effect.

Richard Maguire aka The English Woodworker

Judging by the comments on his blog many share the view that it’s good to see him back. I think @Windows is right in that he’s most useful for those at the earlier stages of learning than many on here. However, just as I always learn something from the people who kindly do WIP’s on here (and...

Richard Maguire aka The English Woodworker

I don't know if any members used to follow Richards blog/vlog. He's been quiet for a few years but is back posting if anyone interested. It appears he is in a new workshop and while still "matter of fact" his latest video style is a bit different. I guess anyone who used to follow him...

    That Swedish church...

The moving of that church is an amazing feat. My dad was one of the civil engineers who worked on moving Warrington Academy in 1981 so that a new bridge and roundabout could be built. Much smaller scale but still impressive. He can be seen at about 4 minutes 30 seconds providing...

    Liberon spirit sanding sealer

If anyone wants methylated spirit without the dye I bought some from here earlier this year. https://www.thepolishingshop.co.uk/methylated-spirit-ida-5-litre-tin-2900 I was surprised at the time to find it was cheaper (even with delivery) than buying the normal stuff.

    Pork Pie Raiser?

Interesting that in the Etsy link I posted yesterday a maker of Melton Mowbray Pies is selling them with a 90mm diameter described as “The perfect size and shape to make a traditional 1lb (454g) Melton Mowbray Pork Pie …” AI 🤷😉

    Pork Pie Raiser?

You need to sort that oozing Adrian.;) Seriously, the best pork pies locally come from a shop in York Shambles. They sometimes have pies where the pastry has cracked or broken and oozing has occurred which are sold at half price - they are markedly inferior. It would be good to see some...
